BEWARE your NV can only be serviced at a few, specialized dealers.  In my state only a couple places.  So when traveling, beware.  I LOVE my van. But due to a recall I found the above to be quite true.

And those vans won't be sold anymore in the US..in the near future.

'Service' as in oil and filter changes and such, belts, hoses etc, can be done by any auto repair shop.

Repairs, well that depends on what needs repair. But as far as I know, parts and shop manuals are available to anyone. In fact if wanted to order a whole new transmission online, for 8 grand, and stab it in the van myself, I can do that. (ain't happening, by the way!)

Recalls? yes, like any vehicle, that is usually done by the dealer OR sometimes by a third party as long as the recall repair or service is done according to the recall documentation.

Some types of repairs require specialized equipment and not every repair shop is going to own that particular piece of specialized equipment.

Well yes, but that has nothing to do with the Nissan Van. That would be true with any make or model of damn near anything on the road, and any shop you take it to. If they dont have THE specialized tools or equipment for THAT vehicle, then they can usually order it, or you can go somewhere else that does have the tool or equipment.

The main exception to that is diagnostic testing software. That's pretty much something that little mom-n-pops wont have on hand for every vehicle, just the mainstream ones and assuming, of course, that the software can be obtained.

We've not had any problems getting routine service from Florida to AZ for our vans. But then again, we've never needed anything done EXCEPT routine service. Seven years, no problems. Any dealership has done the few recalls over the years. And we live in BFE.

There's a reason for the 5 year, 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty. Most NVs don't ever need it,
Ted
