Any Nissan NV owners here? (I searched but didn't see much) We recenrtly bought a 2019 Nissan NV 3500 and plan to convert it with a platform bed, shore power,  and possibly some Avatar bumpers and roof racks.  Are there lessons learned here from other NV owners?

Welcome to the CRVL forums Miles! Sorry I can't help with your questions. Hopefully someone will chime in.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

If you haven't already been there, there is a Nissan NV owners forum with plenty of info on conversons: nissannvforum.com.

There's also a Nissan NV group on Facebook, you have to register for it.

Thanks. I've found the Nissan Forum and posted there but it seems dead. Most of the post are years old. The Facebook seems the most active NV owners group that i've found yet.

There are a lot of videos on your Nissan NV on YouTube.

This is one of the best builds I've found for a Nissan NV. It's for the hightop though.

I have an 2016 high roof NV 2500 camper in conversion now.
Welcome to the forum

Nice build out, but if I were doing a hightop, I'd have a good deal larger shower than that guy has. He's a skinny guy with narrow shoulders.

Also you can get 12V flow-through water heaters that don't use a storage tank, that a lot of people have put in their DIY builds.

Hey Miles, I have a 2013 1500 that I bought used in 2014. Two things I despise about them-- I can't imagine they hadn't fixed both things by the time you bought yours.:

- Terrible terrible TERRIBLE gas mileage..... mine averages about ten mpg in town. Not sure about the freeway because I am an urban vandweller.

- The hoop jumping you have to do to fill the tires and have the computer system accept it before all the computer stuff will work right, totally bites. It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Otherwise, this is the vehicle that keeps on ticking, seemingly no matter what. I am not an expert at all, but of all of the vehicles I've had in my life, this is the one I've felt like I could always count on.

3500, eh? I think mine (referred to as Moby (great white whale) is big, but yours must be a beast, eh?? Congratulations!

Just a comment on the gas mileage. Yesterday, from Tucson to Deming, 15.68mpg in my 2016 NV3500. Now that was at 62mph on cruise control. But I have three solar panels and fan housing on the roof.

We get about 12mpg in town.

I have nothing but time, so driving slow, cranking the tunes is fine with me.

Hubby's NV2500 gets up to 19mph with the same solar/fan set up on roof.

Haven't had any problems with the tires and the TPMS system on either van.

We love the NV. Regret buying the trailer, we would much rather travel in the van.

Ted, my mileage is nearly all city stop/start driving, so it's understandable that the MPG wouldn't be nearly as good as freeway driving. Still and all, the mileage I get stinks. I am a fairly steady driver..... none of the stomp-the-gas-pedal stuff or anything. Just a ton of stops and starts in a jam-packed San Francisco East Bay small city.

I wish I had the manual tire-airing blurb from the manual handy to copy/paste into this form so you would get what I was talking about. It happened after the dealership rotated the tires and it messed up the TPMS reset (the computer crud). The instructions are the dumbest thing I've ever seen -- it's like a game of Twister and you have to inflate/deflate a specific amount of tire pressure (different for each tire) for 30 seconds and if you don't get it right, that computer don't compute.

I've been running around since 2014 with an exclamation mark to indicate something amiss. Not even the Nissan Dealership in town could fix it after they did the tire rotation and I didn't have the time to sit for another hour while they read the manual (yeah, I am *still* in a snit about it all these years later :).

There was an active forum at the time and none of the usually super clever guys could really figure it out.

EDIT: I just did a quick check to see if I could find that old forum and all be danged, but I was able to find the thread I was talking about. It looks like a few did figure it out..... it's still convoluted, but wow, now I've got something to actually try that might work. Here's the link-- the further you read, the better to see what was going on:

If you roll into a Discount Tire, they have the 'tool' that can fix the TPMS bidness.

That is, assuming the guy or gal operating the tool knows what they are doing....and if they cant fix it they wont charge you anything....and they might not charge you anything anyway.

The 'tool' that they have, like most larger tire and wheel shops, is an electronic gizmo (technical term) that will activate the sensors and also set the ECM into 'relearn' mode. This can usually be done right out there in the parking lot, no need to enter a service bay.

Worth a try.

I'm coming to this forum several months after you asked your question. I own a Nissan NV2500 high top which the previous owner started to convert and I finished up. I'd be happy to share pix or other details, if you're still interested.

I have the NV200, does not equate with the bigger Van's, just completing the buid, the first official trip will be at the end of this month March.
