hi: I have learned so much by reading this forum and Bobs blog. I think I remember reading on Bobs blog that sportsmobile vans are a good option. Bob, if I am wrong I apologize. I have been trying to read all of the old blogs and ok, I am old and get things confused. lol.
My question. I need a vehicle with a handicap lift. I found a 2007 ford 250 extended van. no hightop. It has 41,000 miles. private owner and he is the original owner. He wants 25,000$.. It has a onan generator, electric hookup, 10 gal water tank, sink, closet, fridge, separate a/c, microwave. I have been looking at handicap vans with lifts and a van this new runs that price and more, and usually has more miles. Any thoughts? Anyone out there have a sportsmobile? This is way more than I wanted to spend, but...as I need a new handicap accessible van anyhow and would have to redo it myself (which is duable but time consuming and would cost money to put all of these things in an empty one). If I put solar on it could I connect this appliances to the solar power? I have a feeling this will go fast because from what I have been seeing this is a good price but wanted to know what others thought. For comparison there is a 2000 ford eb e-250 5.4 l v8 triton he wants 24,500 with milage of 22,030. It does have the high top which is large enough for a bed over cab. It is beautiful. thanks for any thoughts you may have.
Nora

It sounds like a good deal on the Sportsmobile. I was looking at them last year when I was deciding what to buy next. They are often 4X4's. If this one is, it is a great deal. Make sure to have your own mechanic check it out.

thanks for the replies. For right now I would be using it every day as a transport for my son. But I would like to be able to start trips with him, Locally right now but my dream is to do this fulltime and travel, but...that is down the road. We have a 33 foot motorhome but I cannot drive that, but...we owned an extended van and I drove that. So...it would be driven locally almost every day with small trips in there.
Thanks,
Nora

i always wondered why the accessible vehicles were so much more expensive

is the equipment that expensive? or is it supply and demand? both seem really unfair.

i cant wrap my head around a model year van from mid 2000's having an almost $20,000 premium on top of it just due to the equipment.

im just curious.

The only regret about the van I bought is that it is not a hightop! Everything from dressing to cooking, bathing, everything is done on my knees. In addition, I have worked with handicapped and cannot imagine dealing with the wheelchair in a standard height van.

My advice -- get a hightop!

hi: thanks for the response regarding the sportsmobile van. I is really cool but after thinking about it we would be better getting a high top and arranging it the way it would work best for us. If anyone out there is looking there are 2 of them on the sw Michigan craigslist. one is near Elkhart the other in st Louis Missouri. handicap lifts are fairly expensive, upwards 5-10 thousand. Nora
