very nice blog. I noticed you mentioned you can't bring pork back into the US from mexico. that's very good, in mexico you must have all pork inspected for trichinosis but a lot of it isn't. I know two families in mexico that lost members to this parasite. I wouldn't eat Mexican pork if you paid me. also the avocados seemed odd because at are local stores most of the avocados come from mexico and during the mlb playoffs last year they were advertising mexico avocados all the time. I guess you have to be a big multi-national company to bring aguacates(avocados) into the US. highdesertrangers

I spent a winter in the Columbus / Deming area over 15 years ago, when we were fulltiming. An American foodie friend of mine who lived in Columbus would go to Palomas with a kitchen knife (this was pre-911) and a basket. She would buy avacados in Palomas, sit on a bench, cut the avacados in half and remove their pits, and take them back across the border, no problem.

Now I hear that the grocery store in Palomas will prepare the avacados that way for you. I'll skip that but love their ground beef and the steaks. When we lived in central Mexico 5 to 10 years ago, the beef wasn't corn-fed, but now I don't know. When it tastes that good, maybe it's still pasture raised.

We're going to Deming today after 2 weeks around the border and I'm looking forward to grocery shopping!
