My almost free van conversion

Today I got the bed in and improved the crates with some cloth bins from the dollar store $3.00 each. I added Velcro straps to keep them in place.
With the low headroom in a minivan I like the bed on the floor. It's a double mattress I dragged from my big trailer with a topper on it. It's amazing that a full bed fits in perfectly with the seats forward, plus two rows of crates at the back!
I will post my final set up on Saturday, showing the curtains and cool screens I made from the collapsed screen tent.
One more day to prep then we are on the road.

I'm impressed.
Really like seeing simple, low buck conversions- after 40+ years of home construction it seems like I complicate my builds with all kinds of custom wood butchery, only to see a cheaper, simpler and totally functional system later.

Here are some photos of my finished conversion as we left home, and arrived at Yellowstone. You can see here the awning that I created as well as the zipper sections to turn the van into a breezy tent at night. There are also screens on the sunroof and at the back of the van for when the hatch is up. They are attached with strong magnets but are not seen in these photos.
We are having a great time camping in our minivan conversion!

I also created window reflectors with suction cups from the dollar store and a cheap windshield reflector.

Hmm... almost everything was free. I bought zip ties, some cheap dollar store stuff to organize and tablecloths. Total investment was less than $100.00. I did have some camping equipment, so if you take into consideration that most people would have some and borrow some, they could also do the same. I was willing to do some sewing and was able to canabilize a collapsed screen gazebo for the awning and screen portions, but most people can buy something g similar for a small amount of money.
