Thought we'd stripped our possessions down to the bare minimum for a comfortable, civilized life. Moving it all to the RV. HEY! It still won't fit! Not even when we stuff the trunk of the toad full.(Where would groceries go?)

OK. Time to get really brutal about purging. Do I really need four fall weight jackets? Does DH really need those crystal brandy snifters? Do we really need that Ryobi chain saw for firewood? (Yes, on that one) How did we do this 20 years ago?

heavy items LOW, forward of rear axle, if possible.
light weight items Higher,
to prevent Porposeing, & better control.
check air pressure when tires are cold. I run 82--85 right side 80--82 left side.

Going thru everything, again. I seem to have a scissors fetish. Big ones, small ones, little ones with birds cast into the handles. I hve 17 pair of scissors between my desk and sewing box.

Good grief! I found rocks from Abu Simbel, Hatshepsut's Temple, and bits of the long-pillaged limestone covering of the Great Pyramid, all from our trip to Egypt a few years ago. What the heck am I going to do with those?

these actually sound like they have a spiritual quality to 'em. Special stones from sacred places.

I'd take them down to the ocean, or a lake, say a prayer over 'em, and send them out into the water.

at least you'll get a good final use out of them.
I can't see the guy at the pawn shop wanting them, nor anyone else for that matter.

Plus...this would be a nice way to cleanse yourself from your old life and send positive prayers and energies into your new one.

just a thought.

Patrick: Spiritual quality.

Me: I did not think of that. I have a friend who is a practicing witch. I bet she'd love something like that!

Speaking of rocks, I have several hundred-pound-plus chunks of granite and basalt as landscape accents. I have one chunk that is about 400 pounds. Daughter-in-law wants them for her yard. I want know when they are coming for it. I'm going to make some popcorn, set up a chair and watch the show as they try to wrestle that thing into the truck bed.

Whenever I'm ready to toss something I first think of the Salvation Army but I don't think even they would take spiritual rocks.

Maybe your rocks can find there way to a segment of Leno's "Things we found on eBay"?

"Friend" used to have so many crystals on her desk that I don't know how she could get her work done. She's deep into healing and protection spells and karma and whatever. I am pretty skeptical about it, but she takes it seriously. She was thrilled to be offered rocks with connections to special mystical places. It is not often that I can give that much pleasure to someone with absolutely no cost or inconvenience to myself.

As for the rest of the stuff that did not sell at the garage sales, it is headed for Goodwill, tomorrow morning. We just signed the agreement with the realtor and she wants all the clutter GONE. We are probably not going to get as much we expected, but that's how it goes. The place is paid off, sobwe don't have to worry about a mortgage balance.

The last time I hit the road I had way too much stuff, but I could squeeze in and thought I could live with it. Then I took it to the scale and weighed it!!

It was a 1/2 ton rated at 6200 lbs and it weighed 8000 pounds. What was worse the tires were overweight and there is one thing you NEVER want to do is overload your tires. Going over gross is long term problems, overloading your tires can be deadly.

I went on a massive diet and dropped entire hobbies (gold prospecting). The truck was always overloaded but at least it was close and the tires were okay. Beyond that it was tremendously more enjoyable to have open space instead of clutter.

The moral of the story is take the RV to a scale and get each axle weighed and make sure the tires are not overloaded.

Then be ruthless!!! You'll be glad you did!

Jean, we feel ya on the move in woes.
Like y'all, we cleared out our house summer of 2012 and were in the MoHo Aug 1. It was a tough job, but we managed to have storage places that were far from filled. Having traveled before, I knew new things would be added shortly.

We cut loose of any breakables, like that nice crystal. Brandy tastes pretty good in a cup when you're out there on a nice evening watching the sun go down ;)
Unless you like rubbing elbows with the 'big money' folks dress on the road is pretty casual.

I'm sure you'll work it out, just as you have with this whole process.

Keep on rockin :D

Just finished cleaning out the fridge in the house. Pigs must sneak in here when we are asleep. I know WE did not make that mess!

Another appt for showing the house tomorrow morning. This is the second realtor who was unhappy about bringing clients over with the beehive in back. They are certified European bees, very docile. If you walk up slowly, you can put your hands right on the hive and they don't care. As long as you don't try to move it or open it or swat at them, they just aren't interested in you. I was nervous about them, too, when son put them there. Maybe it is time for them to go. I'll miss watching them over morning coffee, but I won't have them soon, anyway.

Jean

too bad you don't live closer as I'd be all over that beehive, and would gladly take it off your hands.

Our son raised bees for 2 years, and our fruit trees loved it! I've been seriously thinking of putting one back in again ever since he returned it to it's original owner. (it was on loan for a high school project)

Best of luck with the showing!

If you were closer, Patrick, I might be happy for you to have them. Son wants them, but not in HIS yard. His neighbors don't like them. If he can't find a suitable place in his yard, he will probably give the hive to one of his beekeeping friends.

ARGHHH!!!!!!

I am so mad I could spit nails. The woman who was supposed to stay in my house for the next couple years, paying nothing but her own utilities, giving me the peace of mind that someone I trusted was taking care of my house and my yard and my trees and protecting my investment, the woman who started making arrangements to buy her own place at the last minute, NOW tells me that her deal fell thru! Gee, her timing is just great. I don't care about the furniture the kids took. I can replace that. But we've already signed a contract with the realtor. It would have been nice if she told us this 3 weeks ago, when it happened. Now, all we can do is hope nobody else wants it.

Sorry for your frustration, Jean. I am a bit confused tho. I thought you were selling your house? Did you decide to keep it and have a renter/caretaker instead? Is the failed deal prohibiting your breakaway?

Also, just because you signed a deal with the realtor, my understanding is that you are not bound to sell it if you change your mind. I am not a realtor nor attorney, but I have bought and sold a few houses. I don't ever recall being tied into a "must sell because I listed it" scenario. I suggest you talk to your realtor.

Anyway, absolutely none of the info I questioned is any of my business, but I just found myself a bit confused.

Good Luck no matter what you do!

I know one thing, if it was hitting the road or the bees, the bees are in trouble. :)

Kevin, originally, we e were going to have an old friend house sit for a couple years while we traveled. She would pay her own utilities ($200-300 a month is our cost). She would look after the place and tolerate my son's bees. Then, 2 weeks be we were leaving last summer, she told us she was buying her own mobile home on some sort of verbal arrangement, instead. I am paranoid about the house being empty, but we left and the kids checked on the house when they checked on the bees. We came back to clean up some loo see financial ends and for DR to have a knee replacement.

We got our problems straightened, decided we really liked full timing, but needed to sell the house if we did that. It is a small house - 2 bedrooms, 1 car garage, town sized lot, and a bit old fashioned - but it is very nicely landscaped, well maintained and is set up beautifully for us. We did not want renters tearing it up or neglecting it. We did not want it sitting empty and deteriorating. So, we called a realtor and signed a contract.

Right after we signed that contract, our friend tells us that her own arrangement was in trouble and she was now available to house sit, again. Too late for us. We just got a very fair offer that is close to our asking price. The place has been on the market for less than a month. I would have held out and tried to chase the buyer away, but DR no longer trusts our friend to stay. He doesn't want to be in the middle of nowhere and find out that she's left us in the lurch. So, we signed for the sale and we'll see if the bank likes the buyer.

Lost wife and couldn't edit. That should be:

2 weeks before we were leaving

($150 - $250 a month is our cost for elec, trash and water)

Loose financial ends

DR should be DH.

Good grief LOST WIFI, not lost wife.

I need to find my reading glasses.
