Kevin, originally, we e were going to have an old friend house sit for a couple years while we traveled. She would pay her own utilities ($200-300 a month is our cost). She would look after the place and tolerate my son's bees. Then, 2 weeks be we were leaving last summer, she told us she was buying her own mobile home on some sort of verbal arrangement, instead. I am paranoid about the house being empty, but we left and the kids checked on the house when they checked on the bees. We came back to clean up some loo see financial ends and for DR to have a knee replacement.
We got our problems straightened, decided we really liked full timing, but needed to sell the house if we did that. It is a small house - 2 bedrooms, 1 car garage, town sized lot, and a bit old fashioned - but it is very nicely landscaped, well maintained and is set up beautifully for us. We did not want renters tearing it up or neglecting it. We did not want it sitting empty and deteriorating. So, we called a realtor and signed a contract.
Right after we signed that contract, our friend tells us that her own arrangement was in trouble and she was now available to house sit, again. Too late for us. We just got a very fair offer that is close to our asking price. The place has been on the market for less than a month. I would have held out and tried to chase the buyer away, but DR no longer trusts our friend to stay. He doesn't want to be in the middle of nowhere and find out that she's left us in the lurch. So, we signed for the sale and we'll see if the bank likes the buyer.
Lost wife and couldn't edit. That should be:
2 weeks before we were leaving
($150 - $250 a month is our cost for elec, trash and water)
Loose financial ends
DR should be DH.
Good grief LOST WIFI, not lost wife.
I need to find my reading glasses.
