Wait..............What, No bacon ?!?!?

I rented the movie from Netflix but was unimpressed. It seemed like propaganda associated [but not overtly] with a particular church that advocates a vegan diet. While there is nothing wrong with vegan diets [some of my family are vegans], I'd need a lot more convincing that vegans are healthier than non-vegans than what I see around me.

I watched it also. Pretty interesting.

Another to watch is called Vegucated.

I don't eat red meat, but still love fish and chicken.

I want to eat healthier but not sure I could go 100% vegan. =/

The Netsilik Inuit ate a diet composed almost entirely of animal products, though they DID eat lichen from the stomach of caribou. They were generally healthier than the Europeans and lived long lives.. till 'we' came along and buggered things up. ..Willy.

IMHO, the problem isn't meat--it's all the hormones and antibiotics they feed the cows, pigs and chickens nowadays.

Old Fashioned Salisbury Steaks with brown onion gravy:

http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2012/03/salisbury-steak-mashed-potatoes-and-peas/

Can be done with bison, or grass fed beef if you prefer and can afford it. I can't.

As for me, it's way too late. I'm a gal from the old school. I like man food, cooking and eating it.

If I'm gonna die from food, I'm gonna die happy and with a big smile on my face. I believe that people should enjoy their food, and just be grateful if they don't have to stand in a food line to get it.

Scarlett

I think I'll pass on the lichen, unless it's served with cheese and green chili enchilada sauce on a handmade flour tortilla.

I tried various forms of vegan/vegegtarian diets in my youth. Over the decades, what I finally concluded - for me - was a diet of balance. I love steak. Do I need more than a four ounce serving at one time? Do I need all the fat, or will a lean cut be better? Am I including fruits and veggies in the mix? Do I need sugar and fat intake - candy and potato chips? is that can of vegetables low sodium? Are tyhe canned fruits in water or syrup?

200 calories of meat/fish, 200 fruit, 200 vegetables per meal will fill you up. I often substitute pasta for the fruit or vegetable.
A light bit of tomato sauce on the pasta does not add many calories.

When I drink soda, it's Diet Rite: numerous flavors, no sugar, no sodium no calories: still, best to avoid diet sodas.

And normal exercise...
