There are always questions of how to get the data on your phone usable for more than viewing things on the small screen. The first thing most think of is tethering the phone or using the hotspot which may not be included in your plan. Now some games and programs really do need a connection to a computer to run but you don't need it to watch movies, you tube and such. One way is to use a OTA adapter, the other is mirror casting.

We use a Amazon fire stick to receive the screen of a Galaxy S5 via mirror casting. You can also cast to a smart TV as well as other adapters. It actually works better for us than using the fire stick connected to a hotspot due to the memory limitations of the stick. Once started the screen on a 39 inch HD TV is filled and as sharp as you would want. We have a program called Kodi on the phone and the plan is unlimited, so the movies can run all day.

For none movie type use a bluetooth keyboard gives me a comfortable experience while cruising the forums. So unless you really need a hotspot for something your phone can't handle, there is no reason to go against the terms of your plan if hotspots are not allowed.

As for Kodi, it is a program that brings all of your feeds to one spot. With various builds it can find the sites with the newest movies, TV shows and sports for free. I'd be happy to answer any questions or a quick you tube search for kodi will bring lots of info. I use a build called tvaddons and it's better than having cable TV.

Oh, man. How did I become such a dinosaur so quickly? I thought I was high tech when I hooked the PC to the tv. Don't think I'll ever catch up at this point .

many will have serious ethical dilemma when using KODI or other tools to watch TV over the internet streams. But try to remember that if you have an HDTV antenna, and a library card, or a local bar; you have free access to all the content on those. You are just shifting the stream to a different path on your free library card, and free HDTV antenna. So patronize the library, and buy the products on the TV, and patronize the bar; and stop feeling guilty. Go ahead and subscribe to netfliks and HBO and HULU also (or make sure your shared relatives account is paid up).

or choose to not watch at all.

Kodi is not responsible for what people load onto it. The user picks what services are loaded and there is plenty to watch without it having to be illegal. Even then the add on doesn't provide the content, it gathers the sources in one spot like various websites already do.

Your car isn't responsible for how fast you drive, your pipe has nothing to do with what you smoke, a gun doesn't aim it self and Kodi doesn't come with illegal add ons. The user is the responsible one here.

Remembering pirate radio listening rules. You can listen to anything broadcast. You can not retain a copy. You can not save a copy. You can not share a copy. -- many think of online broadcasts like pirate radio. But the problem with online distribution is that everything is a copy. Only watch what you have a legal right to watch.

We use Belkin Miracast to Broadcast from our phones to our flat screen TV sets. Crackle, Show Box and Mobdro represent a few of the apps we use on the phone to view the content we prefer. We also have an Xfinity TvtoGo App which allows us to view a whole host of cable channels legally (for when the CBS Online Stream of Survivor gets shut down temporarily).
No home network required with the Belkin either - broadcast (Miracast) directly from phone to TV.
