What say ye all about mighty max batteries?  I am buying a battery or two next week and have not chosen which brand yet.  My budget is low as I just spent my little emergency fund on a set of tires last week.  It is dangerous and more expensive to buy cheap tires. what about cheap (relatively) batteries?

I'm fairly sure Mighty Max batteries are manufactured by Universal Battery, which I believe is out of China. So I would compare their prices to the similar models by Universal, which you'll see widely around the internet.

I haven't used them, but my feeling about Universal and Mighty Max is that they're cheap and not premium but probably fine.

I think the difference between cheap batteries and expensive ones is lifespan. Unlike cheap tires, which can be really unsafe, I think most cheap batteries will function fine, but won't last as long as better quality ones. For AGM specifically, that comes from the thickness and quality of the lead plates, as well as the complexity of the design.

Thank you barley guy. My thinking was similar. These might get me going while saving for better. Now I wish iceco and amazon would get there act together. They took my cash a month ago but refer is not on its way yet.

You didn't say what size battery you are looking at.

They seem expensive to me:
 - Mighty Max 12V 100AH (50 usable) @ $179.99 = $3.60 per usable amphour
 - Duracell GC2 at Sam's Club, 6V 210AH (105 usable) @ $180 for 2 ($90 ea.) = $1.80 per usable amphour

AGM vs flooded LA cost won't be comparable in the near future. I will pay more for AGM just to bypass the hassle of watering the batteries and not worrying about the off gassing during charging corroding things.

I would see if a national chain like Batteries +, Walmart or Auto Zone had them or a similar priced battery with a warranty. As I assume these are beginners batteries for a house battery you will most likely be able to get them replaced if they prematurely go bad.

The one I am looking at is a 100 amp hour for $175 free shipping and it is a sealed lead acid so no maintenance. I am looking at buying two. I have very little budget left and want to get on the road very very soon. If I can get a year or two out of these batteries while I save money for better I am in. Am I making a huge mistake? They advertise a 30 day return policy and a 100 excuse me a one year warranty of course the Rub is I would probably have Pay shipping to return it. Would not be worth the money to replace it that way It’s sort of like investing my money in the casino it may turn out it may not end the odds are probably in the house's favor.

I am sorry that my posts are not grammatically and spelling correct. My vision is getting worse so is my Parkisons shaking to touch the screen so I am using dictation. I also have brain damage that causes me to screw things up regularly. 15 years ago when the doctor told us that I had permanent brain damage my wife said oh crap I knew that 30 years ago.

Yes they are house batteries for a beginner. I have compared the national store brands and their prices are Much higher. It seems their selection is limited also. I have looked at house batteries for years. And in the last six months have shopped for them so much that I am confused. I should have been keeping notes in a separate notebook for batteries so that I could recheck my decisions. I know you get what you pay for but sometimes you get what you can afford.

the most affordable by far are two 6v from Walmart, like Spiff pointed out.

keep in mind when it say SLA(Sealed Lead Acid) that doesn't mean it's an AGM or even a GEL battery. it could be any one of three sealed batteries.

Mighty max is an American company in NY. I had 4 of thier AGM batteries before i went lithium. I think they are a solid alternative to the high end brands.

Yes, their headquarters is in Brooklyn. But their batteries aren't manufactured there. An old listing has their country of manufacture in Vietnam, and a later search result I found said "Asia". One customer review I read said they received a Universal battery with a Mighty Max sticker covering it, and if you look at the Universal and Mighty Max batteries they look strikingly similar, the only real difference being the branding that is different, though both in white ink.

That doesn't necessarily make them bad, as lots of American companies manufacture things overseas. And you do get free shipping and US based customer service.

I've had seven of the Universal UPG 100ah batteries. The first three are almost four years old for the van. But one of them got a bad cell about late last year. The remaining two run the fridge, fan and other stuff fine, though I haven't pushed them. The other four UPG batteries are in the trailer for two + years and so far, so good.

Hubby's got four of the Vmax tank 6v batteries in his van (3 yrs old) We've been very happy with them, they've been well used and we've bought a new set as we're giving our son the old ones so he can commit batterycide as a beginner with his new solar system.

I highly recommend this battery for a very good very inexpensive battery ($89) with no hassle warranty at any Wal Mart. I personally have one and it not only has a decent 122 AH (marine) rating but it also starts my Cummins engine easily. It is not as good as a true deep cycle, but it is half the price of one and it will work well.

The good thing is you can return it no hassles.  I've spent the money on nice Trojan deep cycles before, but in Arizona, the extreme temperatures kill lead acid batteries in 2-4 years no matter how well you take care of them, I prefer the cheap WalMart ones now as I am not crying when they die.
