Also keep in mind that there's laws in effect for detecting, the antiquities act is very much enforced on Government property. It states that anything over 50 years old is considered an artifact. The removal of such artifacts is prohibited....
And so if you find a 1967 quarter, not even silver. On the ground and put it in your pocket and head home your a criminal.
That Listerine bottle if you found it on property other than Government land is ok.

hey just keep at it. I have found everything with my detector except gold. not saying I haven't found valuable stuff.

what are you looking for? the best method of practice is to take a sample of whatever you are looking for and glue it to a plastic poker chip. then bury it and see if you can find it. it works best if someone else buries it without you watching.

stay within the parameters of your detector. in other words don't take a tiny piece of gold and bury 3ft down.

I've been talking to co-workers one of my co-workers has a farm that was built in the early 1700's he said that President Lincoln stayed there and there's also a treasure buried on his property somewhere I'm going to see if I can do some detecting there I'm sure he will let me if I split it with him.

If you can, go to the county seat and look at land plat maps they show where the original buildings were located. Then you can have a better idea of where to look.
