On our trip down the West Coast we stopped at Santa Cruz and met a woman I've known for 8 years on an eBay chat forum. It was a real joy to finally meet after all this time and put a face with the name. We parked at her beach house for 3 nights and had a great time touring the town and having lots of laughs. The visit cemented a friendship that will last a lifetime.

This is just one of the reasons I love traveling. Have you met folks from other forums (besides this one) in your travels??

I've met a lot of world motorcycle travelers from interactions on the ADV (motorcycle ADVenture rider's) forum

I've gotten to know many guys who have traveled all over the world on bikes from friendships I've established on there.

...and I've met YOU kids too!! :D

I've met lots of people off of other forums and look forward to meeting a whole bunch off of here both at the RTR and as I travel around the country.

Years ago one woman started a private forum off of a dating site - we weren't so much interested in dating as we were in chatting for which we were constantly being reprimanded, hence the new start up. 14 of us got together for 5 days of fun out of that one. The forum went by the wayside due to health issues of the forum owner...sigh! We were a tight group for a long time.

I also belong to a local private forum centered around our passion for the outdoors and canoeing/hiking. We set up 2 or 3 group events each year and I attend as many as possible. Some firm friendships have evolved from there.

And then there's my interest in hammocks. The forum there has a section dedicated to group hangs all over the world where people post dates and places. I just returned from one this past weekend with about 85 in attendance. It was my 3rd year at the annual event so I knew many of the attendees and have made some good friends from there. There's also a group from there that combines my love of canoe tripping and our hammocks. It's a great group and I beg a bow seat regularly... :D

I guess I grew up in an age where it was okay to talk to strangers.... :D

Like Patrick, I've met tons of people from ADV, I've ridden all over the country and met up with some great folks. Met a few from a bicycling forum and a couple from a now defunct lesbian board.

In 15 years of forums I've only ever met 2-3 scary or annoying people... pretty good odds overall.

G'Day Bob. It is a beautiful day here in Tennessee. My dogs and I are sitting on the front porch enjoying the sights and sounds of rural life. We are in the upper left corner of the state, the next to the last town before you cross into Kentucky.
