I might be able to get this van pretty cheap (around 1200) from a family member. It has under 100k miles (i believe it was around 75k).

The good: Runs pretty good, inside its rust free, bare and big. All new tires. It was mostly parked except when used to haul some lumber or something from lowes or moving a family member.

The Bad: Some rust on the outside and the slider is pretty rusted. Gonna need some body work. Exhaust needs some connectors, its held up with wire, tho i think the exhaust/muffler itself is salvageable. Might need new windows or some components, it is very hard to roll up, the driver side cant be done all the way (seen in pic). Needs a tune up, oil change, hoses/etc maintenance stuff. It may need a bracket or something for the springs, tho he may have already fixed that himself.

This is exciting, this would greatly accelerate the camper part of my plans!
Hey, that ain't a bad lookin' old truck at all! Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, but I'm not a very good judge of what's a good deal when it comes to vehicles. I've been skrood on nearly every vehicle purchase I've ever made in my life, so what the heck do I know?

Decent looking body though, & nice custom wheels! Good luck if U decide to go for it! :)

Yeah me too pretty much...but one good thing is I have driven it multiple times and I've been around since he bought it himself so i know what he knows about it for the most part. Hes selling it to me for what he has in it, i think just so he can start helping me do the conversion on it, he loves stuff like that.

i am strangely reminded from the scene in Ghostbusters 1..
where dan akroyd brought home the "ghost mobile"..

just kidding. hope you get on the road soon!

That's worth something in itself.

As to bodywork, you could probably get a couple of replacement doors cheap from an auto wrecking yard (solve door rust and window issues the easy way). You should also check into having a body shop school do the other rust work for a reasonable cost. You might even enroll and learn to do the work yourself in their shop. Open the site below and enter your zip code to find ones near you.

http://www.citytowninfo.com/employment/automotive-body-repairers/west-virginia

Good luck on your project.

Bob

Hmm...i don't think there is a school nearby for autobody. I think the nearest place is about 2 hours away (in WV, everything is 2 hours away )...but there is a new auto garage open and i think they will work cheap because i think they want to establish themselves. They had a sign for body work up at the local grocer.

I like the idea of of the junk yard..hmmm might save me some time and money. Maybe i'll get lucky and they will have an old topper there
