Looking for all of your collective expertise comparing 2 ambulances:

2011 Chevy Express, well maintained as an ambulance, decommissioned 4/24, 129k mile, Duromax diesel engine + GL90 transmission, decals removed, appears to have rusted wheelwells

1999 Ford E450, already fully converted to an RV, 127k miles, 7.3 turbo diesel + 4R100 transmission (I think).

I'd recommend *not* ever buy a diesel with post 2006 emissions. So the E450 is better, IMO. No expert on the details of these old rigs though.

Maybe buy Gr8ful's ambo? It has the 7.3 diesel with less miles, no turbo, and is pre electronic injection.

“Poor people have poor ways!” Been there but you must find alternative ways to get things done that don’t cost you money. Using a van as daily transportation is costly. Figure out a way to work closer or share a ride or work fewer longer days or combine jobs. Maybe catch a ride in a company truck on a supply run or buy someone else’s gasoline that can give you a ride. Take a bicycle to a pick up point. Ride a motorcycle, it’s risky but cheaper. See about selling sawdust or smoker wood to local stores. Check with local garden supply or feed stores about selling tomato stakes in season. See if local mulcher pays for bark or slats. Check with local wood working clubs about custom hardwood purchases and cuts. You need income make your property pay for itself. Depending on your age plant several hardwoods like walnut, hickory or cherry which provide some side benefits of nuts and fruit. Look for someone with the skills to put in a septic that needs a place to store equipment and do some trading. You are more likely to find a good vehicle through local contacts than in a government auction in my opinion. Maybe a local church has an old van like yours in better shape that needs some wood parking stops, picnic tables or fenceing. Maybe between the two vans you can piece together a good one. Maybe a local garage needs a storage building out of rough cut lumber.
