Has anyone stayed at a campground for months at a time with a van? I have found some pay camps with a reasonable annual membership, but I'm wondering if living in a van would raise red flags as it's not an official RV. I would like to find a place I can stay so I don't have to think about where I need to rest every night, or worry about being harassed or getting into trouble with the law.

I have done it and just have taken a tent also so there was no questions asked. I used the tent for storage and slept in my van. Tent sites where I am seems to also be cheaper than rv sites. Sadly most of the campgrounds here close in October for the winter.

If it's not specifically allowed good chance they will be okay with it, but it will be facility specific.

some state parks may offer a reduced MONTHLY rate during the off season...in Texas (where I'm familiar with) the off season runs from
November through February. We stayed in one for six weeks straight last winter, just as campers.
Arizona has areas that can be stayed at for longer periods if one purchases what is called a LONG-TERM VISITOR PASS, I think...but there are few amenities if any...

in Arizona and California the BLM has what are called Long Term Visitor Areas(LTVA's). the winter ones are not campgrounds so to speak. it's open desert just like where RTR is held. some have trash cans some don't, some have a few vault toilets, some don't, some have a dump station some don't. none have tables or fire rings. some where on here I have posted a link to the rules. winter LTVA's costs 180 bucks for 6 months. I will try to find the thread with the rules. highdesertranger
