Here is a pic of my trailer. I'm a camp host this year and am staying in a camping spot marked "Camp Host". When campers are looking for me, often times they will stop in their vehicle, look at the trailer, then drive off. Or they will walk around the trailer trying to find the door while seemingly wondering if anyone is in there. Sometimes, of course, they walk up to the door and knock. The trailer doesn't seem that stealthy to me, but is it?

Do like all the other camp hosts. Put a bunch of stuff outside, erect an awning over the door, and put up big sign that says "CAMP HOST. Knock on the door", albeit the door is on an usual place.

I do keep a pretty clean camp. I always pick up my stuff after I'm done using it. Literally always. That probably does help make less eye-catching now that you mention it. That is something I'm going to keep in mind should I find myself in a place where I want to keep in on the down-low.

Yeah. With my van, there is typically only a folding chair and small table outside to indicate a lived-in campsite. I bring things outside when I need them, and then they go back to their places. So breaking camp takes just a minute. OTOH, I am always amazed at other campers bringing what looks like everything they own outside and strewn around. Likewise, "every" camp host I've seen does similar. Stuff all over the place. So, maybe you need to advertise like fake news to put the hearts and minds at rest.

I'm based in Montana and took that pic last year when applying for Amazon as they needed to see what I was using for living quarters. The trail around the trailer is me moving the ladder to rid the solar panels of all that white stuff.

Mission Trailers. Long story short, I had to sue the dealer because he didn't make the trailer to my specs despite having a specific contract. Horrible experience. They cost me some money. If you get a custom ordered trailer, don't expect it to be done correctly because it probably won't be right. Then if it is wrong, you will have a heck of a time fighting them. Lots of horror stories on that subject, but beyond the scope of this thread.

I think the reason people don't "see" me is because of inattentional blindness. Just like when people can't "see" a motorcycle or a bus on the road even if it is right in front of them. People expect to see a car and little else.

With my trailer people are expecting AC units sticking out of the top, maybe slide outs, pin strip swirls on the side, the door in the side instead of in the nose, crap strewn about, etc. And the cargo trailer part, I think they expect a polar white color. When none of those things match up, they have a hard time "seeing" what is right in front of them. It's obvious someone lives in here. I don't have a neon sign or an inflatable arm-flailing guy out front, but it is still obvious. Maybe not at a glance, but looking for the camp host? Totally obvious. But it isn't for a lot of people. Seems weird to me.

Big sign, one side

"WELCOME, camp host is inside, please knock!"

Other side, "Away for the moment, have a look around, or I'll be back soon"
