I’m in the market for a new to me rig and am having to go up in size. My current RV is 23 foot and gets about 10ish on average but sometimes more. We tow a trailer with stuff and an atv though.

I’m wrestling with the idea of diesel or gas with the next one.

Diesel pushers and off road don't play well together if that's is important to you. highdesertranger

Cam, what about a rig like Blanch has? Big ole pickup truck you could put the UTV in back of, and a 30' travel trailer. Blanch seems to be able to get in and out YARC camp OK. Just a first thought.

I was able to find a good buy on a new 24' travel trailer that my wife loved so we bought it and had it delivered to a yearly rental lot to be set up and tested. We will be spending several months a year there and in the immediate area. Rent and storage is less than $1,000 a year for a site without utilities. We will use our old 1987 Suburban and 12' camper/ 12' flatbed for the Samurai for traveling and short trips. If you end up staying in Long Term Areas every year why not just store a camper trailer in Quartzsite in the off months and use the utility trailer/utv to haul water and sewage when there?

Qxxx. We have thought over every possibility. The RV we are in is a great rig and really well designed but not for two old farts that aren’t in the best of shape. It has a corner bed that’s comfy but not for two as one would have to crawl over the other to use the bathroom at night. Also with Johns awful back he sleeps in a recliner as he can’t sleep flat.

I want to rectify that by getting a rig big enough to put in an adjustable bed of some kind for him. It’s going to have to be a big rig for that.

We just aren’t willing or able to compromise comfort any longer. It’s too hard on us.

So a big rig it is. I also don’t want to have to stop and get out and walk to my “home” is why a Class A is probably going to be in the picture.

Plus there is his tool stash and my sewing stuff stash we need storage for.

Yeah, sleeping can be a pain, literally. I bought my van mainly because I could longer sleep on the ground in a tent, due to my bad hip, no matter what I tried for padding. Now I have a nice comfy thick foam mattress.

If it's gonna be a Class A, so be it. Both Camper Van Kevin and Nomadic Fanatic moved into Class As recently, and seem happy. Trouble is, the last mile and a half out to YARC camp is pretty bad, but you will be able to haul the UTV ok. I once knew a guy, back in the days of 40' Winnebagos, who pulled a trailer that carried both his dune buggy AND his Bronco 4x4. That was a treat to watch. 4 MPG, as I recall.

Qxxx if you think the road to YARC is bad you could never follow me. LOL I know some small towns that wish their roads were that "bad". highdesertranger

I was thinking more about the idea of driving a big ole Class A out there, and then back to the black water dump every week or two, or in to town (Q or Parker) for groceries. When I drove out to YARC camp, I took it slow, and a gal passed me in a brown van like I was stopped. Turns out she was a YARC'er, lol. Wild women in that place.

Qxxx. I don’t think the road to YARC Camp is bad at all. It’s just a bit bumpy but if you look all around out there you’ll see a ton of Class As out there. There are also several ways in and out thru the naked people Camp that’s aren’t as bumpy and there are a jillion class As thru there.

Since we have the ATV we don’t go in and out of town in the RV. In Arizona you can license it for the road and I use it as my daily driver in the street along with great trips to the desert.

Since I’ve looked at ten million Newmar motorhomes on line I’m finding that it will be a great compromise over what we already have. Those rigs may be huge but I have more kitchen counterspace in my little rig than any of those large ones. I like to cook and it can be a major pain without a prep area.

I have more shower space as well in this tiny rig and since I’m fat and it doesn’t look like that’s changing anytime soon I want that as well.

I have been stuck on the Newmar for quality. There are a ton of other big rigs but a lot of them just look nice... I don’t care about that at all. I can always paint.

As this will probably be our last rig I want what I want.

Last night I was searching Craigslist for Newmar when a different type vehicle came up. It wasn’t a Newmar or a Class A but I looked it over anyway. It’s what they call a super C. There was my counterspace. There was the king bed. There was a good shower. The double windows are already there and it can tow 20,000 lbs. two big closets! It comes equipped with solar on the roof already but we would add to that. It has all my requirements and the funniest thing is it’s THE SAME brand of the RV we already have and love for the quality. It’s also only about 34 feet rather that the 40 plus in the large Class As. Shoot some of those Class As have two giant sofas and TWO freaking bathrooms - what a freaking waste of space.

We are checking our calendars and are going to drive up to the factory soon and take a tour. I’m hoping we can find a used one because the new price is twice what I ever paid for a house and I’d rather find a good used.

We will be selling our current rig when we get another. I’d rather not let it go on a trade in as it’s all set for boondocking and a great solid rig.

I’ll probably advertise it on here after we find our replacement.

Here is the rig we both want: it’s a Dynamax 34KD HD. We are both sure this is what we want.

My family will shit a brick over what we might have to spend but we are old farts and want to be comfortable.

very nice, that's very luxurious. I wouldn't know what to do in something like that. highdesertranger

The same thing you do in whatever rig you have HDR. My life won’t change. I’ll still be boondocking everywhere we go. Still be the trash pickup lady and water runner in YARC Camp. John will just not have to sleep in a rickety recliner that’s killing him. I’ll have everything my current rig has except with the addition of more towing power and the space to put an adjustable bed for John.

A big class A think more like 6-8 weeks between dumps for 1 person. Youre alsi going to easily fit enough groceries to match your tanks.

Vans are 1-2 weeks intervals. And a class A easily tows a small car for running around. AND you can get people to come and empty your tanks, fill propane and water.

All in all if youre not looking to burn up the road a class C/A is as cheap or cheaper than a van given the supply volume onboard. Especially if youre doing thousand trails or NMSP over boondocking....which gets expensive searching for good spots.

Well Cammalu, that rig is nicer than my apartment, and more room too, I think. I'm a van camper minimalist, but certainly not gonna fault anyone for making their own best decisions. Good to know it'll not be too difficult to get it to YARC camp. I'm kind of a wienie driver on rough roads, as I don't want to blow my tires or suspension. Plus, like my old friend did, you could probably get a trailer that would carry the UTV (crosswise) and a super compact car both.

No point in telling "you" to have fun. You got that figured out.

Of interest to me was that Camper Van Kevin used to have a ClassC but was beating it up and breaking things a lot on the BLM roads. Then he went to a tall Promaster van, but I think he found it way too cramped. Now he has a big ole ClassA with plenty of room, but he's mainly staying on good roads and camping in state parks at $30-40 a night. There is always a tradeoff.

One nice thing about the Quartzsite-Parker-LakeHavasu area is, boondocking is pretty easy for big rigs.I didn't see any ClassA's up on the mesa in Ehrenberg, however, but plenty around Yuma.

Qzzz. No problem finding YARC Camp. Let me know and I’ll meet you at the gate and lead you in. I do it all the time.

Some of us have taken on certain roles at YARC Camp. Doug (Abnorm) is pretty much the hub of the camp, the one man welcome committee and and the meal organizer. He’s a very good cook and the nicest guy around. Probably too nice to hang with the rest of us.

Jim (Jim in Denver) is our solar guru and also solar oven guy. He’s a funny guy and entertaining.

People come and go from camp and we get a pretty big turn over. It’s interesting and the variety is really amazing. We have everything.

Me, I’m either gone on my ATV or in my rv mostly but at about 5ish women wander in for a sit and happy hour. That’s really nice. So far it’s margaritas or White Russians.

We have a variety of dogs and cats in camp.

Tx2sturgis has a drone and is a HAM radio guy and really smart.

The variety of jobs that all of us have had mean there is an expert in just about anything including a shrink and a lawyer. Good to have a shrink in camp for all us nuts.

We have medical professionals and truck drivers and photographers and the list goes on and on. Such an eclectic bunch. I love the variety.

We have car campers to big rigs. We fly a flag over camp too

Gypsyjoker has landscaped YARC Camp with cairns here and there and he and I go on rock hunting trips. He’s load of fun.

Can you tell I love YARC Camp?

There is a much better place to camp in Ehrenberg than the Mesa. I don’t know why but I find the Mesa a bit bleak and depressing. I’d much rather be at La Posa. I know you do have to pay but it’s only 180 for seven months and you get water, a dump station, bathrooms, and trash bins. I think I’d spend way more than that running around getting water and dumping all the time.

In Ehrenberg, I checked along the river, but it was packed when I was there. I also did not like the heavy brush, meaning mice and likely packrats. I found the mesa more conducive to my lifestyle, as I was able to park 200 yards from the nearest other rig. Two caravans were up there when I was there too. People drove "very" slow on the access road.

La Posa South is very nice for van campers, as it has many toilets, along with water and dumpsters. $180 for the season is a good deal, or $40 for 2 weeks for the more footloose. However, I spent a lot more time down at Roadrunner boondocking, way way in the back. The (dirt) roads are rather easy driving there. But there are also half dozen other places in the area for nice boondocking too with easy access: Dome Rock, High Jolly, Plomosa Rd, Bouse, Scaddan Wash road. They were all fun.

Cammalu turned this one down...

Wow! Sure is good thing I don't have Class A envy! If the flood waters rise, she'll have room for everyone in YARC camp in her rig, lol.
