I'm not posting this in the Girl's Room because the person who made the most beautiful quilts I've ever seen was a guy.

Several people in these forums say they travel with a sewing machine.  I doubt that I would do so, but I am curious as to what you sew with them?  Do you have one of those lightweight ones?  Do you use solar power?  How much power do they require?

Do you sell the things you sew, either randomly or for regular income?

Just curious, as always. :D

I will travel with mine, mostly to do repairs I suspect on clothing, maybe sew new curtains. I am taking my serger also which I have not had time to use up to this point. I have some craft patterns that I would like to try, specially dolls.

If I ever get out on the road I am taking my machine with me. I have a newer brother machine but I like my old singer better but it is so heavy I don't think I'll take it. I mostly use clothes from thrift shops as my material source.  Because of limited space I'll probably make smaller things. Right now I've been making dog collar bandanas. Pinterest  has a ton of ideas I would like to try. My challenge right now is to use up my stash of material in the next 18 months before I hopefully hit the road. Nora

I am not yet mobile, but I bought a machine to upholster my van. Years ago I took an upholstery course with an Aunt of mine. She didn't drive and I was young and happy to be her chauffeur.  I may take the machine with me for making tool pouches and camping gear. The last thing I made was a holster for my cell phone. It is a little rough, but functional. It hangs from my belt.DSC01614.JPG

I tried to add a holster to it for a flashlight, but didn't like how I did it, so it got cut off. , (right side). As a prototype it works well. I think sewing is a lot like welding. Make parts fit and attach them.

My sewing machine is going to come with me. I'll be making a variety of crafts and even quilts but not to sell. I make things and give them away.

I bought some climashield insulation to try to use in a quilt. Just by their nature quilts aren't very warm because the quilting process flattens the insulation. I have some ideas for that. My fabrics of choice are the very vivid, colorful fabrics of the type of Kaffe fassett. If you google him your eyes might pop out at the designs

I have debated on having one. I am currently working at a company and I have found that there's three carts where they (Building cleaners/recyclers)  put stuff for a couple months before tossing it.

Just last week, sibling and I (I referred them for job)  found several items of GREAT use. One was a nice set of needles and thread. I have 2 pairs of pants that need the button replaced. That I would use only had stitching. But hemming I'd use the machine if I had it.

I have seen one on Walmart.co for $23 and it looks like it would be OK for small projects, not the big ones some like to do though.
