I would love some opinions on this van please!

With most of the van conversions, the top is still not high enough to stand up. I am considering buying a extended van and putting a high top on it with about a 24" lift.
What i would do different than what I have seen is I would only cut out the original roof in the middle of the van. This would leave large shelves and maybe even a sleeping loft in the rear.  Keeping most of the roof and it's support bows would also make the van stronger. Of course, the sheet metal edges would have to be well padded. Maybe use conduict and slice it down it's length. Weld it in place then use pipe insulation to cover it.

The open space in the middle is where I would have the kitchen.

Yes, a couple folks here have done that.  Looks to work well.
