It was a Barbie Country Camper from Mattel, advertised as the "The Swinginest Camper on Wheels". Barbie and I used to go on some wonderful adventures in our camper, boondocking in the back yard amidst the forests of dandelions and clover, munching on their herbaceous goodness ... for survival of course.
Well the dandelions blew away and the adventures in Barbie's Country Camper became a memory, buried by the years that grew me up into a different world of responsibility and duty, where traveling in a camper was an idea reserved for weekenders and retirees. The boss man's leash is made of a chain, 48 hours long, confining my weekend travels to a 250 mile radius. Always leaving me wanting more.
Those seeds of the dandelions that floated away on the air so long ago caught up with me many years later, alighting on the first silver strands atop my weary head to plant new ideas. So exhausted from the grueling rat race that no one ever wins, I found my mind wandering again, dreaming of a life of simplicity and freedom, and a little adventure.
Now it is time to start living again, to be a kid again, to turn those childhood reveries into realities. I'll be making my maiden voyage sometime within the next few weeks and I'll be coming to Arizona this winter in my grown-up camper van. There I hope to learn how to make van-dwelling a permanent way of life with a little help from those who will oblige me. I am so anxious to meet Bob and other nomads through whom I've been living vicariously on this amazing and life-changing website. You do not know me, yet I owe you all a debt of gratitude. I thank you for your mentorship.
