Grand Junction Colorado shut down schools as vomiting spread.  Norovirus spreads when vomiting aerosoles particles that land on surfaces and can live for months there unless treated.  The southwest this time of year has lots of visitors, make sure you keep hands and shoe soles wiped clean with something that kills Norovirus.  It is almost instantaneous in causing vomiting like you can't make the few feet to a container and can cause diarrhea.

One of the advantages of boondocking is far less contact with people, some of whom might carry communicable diseases. I've been sick far less often since becoming a nomad.

One high school in louisiana had over 400 students out with it

Food service is the most common place to get it. Great reason to save money by staying out of  cafes ;) Of course you can also it get from the grocery store. Also a good reason to avoid public restrooms including truck stop showers. The norovirus is resistant to disenfectant cleansing agents. Truckers pass through lots of geographic regions  https://www.cdc.gov/vitalsigns/norovirus/index.html

Alcohol-based disinfectants like hand sanitizers don't work to kill the virus, but bleaches, including hydrogen peroxide does.
not a universally true statement. It depends on the amount of alcohol in the hand sanitizer. For instance the hand sanitizer used in the patient waiting rooms at the doctors office, clinic and hospital waiting areas is strong enough to kill flu and cold virus if used properly. But the bottles sold at the grocery store checkout counter might not be strong enough to kill a virus. So you do need to read labels and have a knowledge of what to look for on the label to see if you are getting the protection you are hoping for.

There is a pretty good Wikipedia article on the subject of hand sanitizers that has a lot of in depth discussion about them.
