Howdy y'all,
Wife and I with two dogs are looking at moving into a trailer in the next six months. We're in the PNW but family and life are likely to take us to the SW, fortunately the best place to be in the winter in a trailer.
We're trailer / CRVL neophytes looking for advice and an adventure.
A friend offered us a 2011 Jayflight for $7k. It's in decent shape on the outside and he's kept it generally in working order. He lived in it for 1.5 yrs and then moved out of state. It's been outdoors in NW Oregon for 3 years. Now it's for sale at what seems to be a reasonable price. Word is that a Jayco of this vintage is of acceptable quality, unlike newer models.
Any input is most welcome. Thanks!

This sounds like it might be a good price for a rig like that but… A professional will need to evaluate it even though it is owned by a friend of yours who will probably be honest with you, hopefully. The major problem is it’s been sitting outside in the north west for three years. Freezing and falling and rain and snow. someone needs to look at it who knows how to find water damage that seeps in. As well as all the other standard things to look for in the frame and axle and such. I wish you luck with it. Sometimes these deals work out fantastic and other times they don’t. “Buyer beware”. Be aware. God bless you and all the other nomads.

Welcome to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

If you are new to RVs, are you at least, good with tools, and comfortable with minor repairs around the home?

If you can repair or replace things like faucets, electrical outlets, leaky pipes, or fix your lawnmowers and weed-eaters, repair the broken section of a roof gutter, or you can work with your hands and fix a broken kitchen cabinet door, or replace the element or thermostat in an electric water heater, or re-light the pilot light in your old gas furnace...if things like that you can do, or have done, or would do, then you will have a much better adventure with this 10 year old RV.

If you can't even replace a lightbulb or don't even own a drill or even know what a vice-grip is, then yes, this will absolutely be an 'adventure' just keeping things working.

Good luck either way!

We're ready for the small jobs. Electrical is outside my experience (so far), but plumbing, mechanical and the odd repairs aren't a problem. Heck, my wife repaired her tractor and a couple implements this year. Well aware, however, of how little I know about life on the road.
