How do you install gas struts on an RV door?

Tell us about your experience with choosing gas struts. How do you calculate the length of a gas strut, the required force, and the positioning?

When I needed struts for a camper shell door I measured the closed/open length and ordered off Amazon. Worked great for not much money.
