I do have a Honda CRV, however it's mpg is not as good as I'd like (18-27), and I was thinking of giving it to my mom since she needs a reliable vehicle. I noticed that the Hyundai Accent is a hatchback not much smaller in interior space than the CRV and gets about 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. Since I drive around cities and make money photographing them, I'm thinking that that would be great for lowering the cost of doing my photography. A new one can be gotten for $15000 (financed, of course). Anyone have any experience with this car? Thanks.

I haven't owned an Accent, but nonetheless, Hyundai's quality has gotten way better the past decade.
I had a friend who owned an 07 which had a charcoal canister needing replacement just after the warranty ran out.
Still, they're good vehicles & living in them is quite do-able!

My wife and I have an 2002 Accent, which I use to go to my current job. It's a good little car. Ours is very basic, manual. It used to get good gas mileage, but the engine is about to go. When running at peak we could get 35mpg out of her. Now, because of engine problems, that's been knocked down to about 19, maybe 20 mpg.

Anyway, we tried for a month to live out of it but it was just way too small and cramped. One person, with nothing and some tenacity, could do it I'm sure. But we couldn't. Size, and the seats were uncomfortable to sleep on, even with a lot of padding.

Great commuter car, though. We've put 211k miles on it. I'm sure we could do another 20k or so before she ultimately gives up.

I agree, I think living in a car is a one person deal. Though, I would have almost a "full size bed' if I set it up differently. My idea of living as a van dweller is not to live in the car, but only to sleep in it. When I dwelled in the city, during the day I lived in parks, so I did my sitting (chairs near the car) and my cooking outside. I only slept in the car, sometimes I would use my computer using the front seats. I don't have my back seats in the car at all. They are in storage in case I decide to sell the car I will have the back seats. But the back of the PT cruiser is about five feet by six feet, so would be a comfortable bed for two, I think. If a person is taller than 6 ft, then the passenger side folds down and then there would be plenty of length for a taller person.

For camping out away from the city, I have built a tent that attaches to my hatch back and so I have a cooking/dish washing/food preparation table, plus plenty of room for a chaise lounge and a couple more chairs, and other things. Mine happens to be about 6 ft long but could be any size anyone wanted, or a seprate tent or any number of other options would work.

Hyundai has a camping package! This guy has no clue why anyone would want that thing. LOL... listen to him... errrr... yeahh.... we got this stuff and some... errr.... other stuff... yeah....

That would work on ANY open-back vehicle... like my truck!

I have been thinking of buying a patio gazebo misquito netted thing and making a few alterations to fit my truck like this.

My daughter is on her third Accent- many miles of harsh driving around Boston area. No real issues other than they don't withstand impact
I find them comfortable for driving, great gas mileage, and adequate zip to merge if you keep the rpms up...... not sure I'd want to try sleeping in it though...

you do know that kia and hyundai just had to pay a huge fine for inflating thier mpg numbers. just a little heads up. highdesertranger

i went to buy land in NB this last october, i took my wife's Toyota Matrix, i though i would rent motel, but the first night i slept so good in the car, i decided to do it again, then again,( 10 days total)...when my wife had the weekend off she joined me , we rented a motel that night and i could nt sleep at all!!??, i found the Matrix extremely reliable, confortable, good enuogh space to sleep, a bite short if your 5.10 or more, great experience, ...my personal view on the Accent is not so great, if you could get better space and more reliabilty, i have friend s who owns them, flimsy i would say...my two cents...freemind46
