Noticed this vent on the side of the newer cargo trailers and thought that they may be useful on the side of a van, older cargo tailers, camper shells, etc. The ones I saw on the cargo trailers were faced forward toward the tow vehicle on one side and the other was faced rearword on the opposite side of the trailer. In this fashion, while driving air entered the forwardmost vent and stale air was pushed out the rearmost vent. However, I was thinking these vents could be used while the vehicle is stationary, but facing downward (to keep rain out). If mounted low on the side of the van, etc. and used with a roof vent, fresh air would be moved inside. Great just for normal ventilation, but super important when using any type of air consuming heater, especially those that produce carbon monoxide. The vents come in black or white, are inexpensive and wouldn't look bad on the side of your rig.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/140634864828?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
