I have been pretty much a lurker here absorbing all the info. I must say you guys seem to be a friendly bunch!!! I think I'll fit right in. I have been toying with the idea of living on the road but instead of a van I am going with a truck and a slide in camper. I found this on craigslist and I was wondering what you people think of it. I know the truck has a lot of miles but I was wondering what you think of its reliability. Thank you

Bob

http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/rvs/3850605250.html

Welcome, Bob!
From another Bob

Looks like a nice setup. Chevy V8's are pretty reliable, and when you need service or replacement parts, they are everywhere.
Get the truck checked out for running gear, shocks, etc. Make your offer if you make one reflect any repairs needed.
Everything is negotiable.

I like the fact that the pickup is an extended cab, too.

Have you actually gone to personally see the unit to check out how everything inside the camper works? Also check the roof, as older units sometimes have leaks.

Good Luck,
Bob

Hey Bob, Bob here
I haven't actually gone to check it out yet. I just found it online today. I think I'll check it out this weekend and check the things that you mentioned. If I see that it's a decent truck and camper I will get a mechanic to do a check. Thanks for your input
Bob

My ex has a 1991 Chevy extended cab truck and oh boy is that thing tough! We took it to the jungles of Mexico for a year where the suspension and the 4 wheel drive were tested on a daily basis. It's lived in the desert and gone places that no vehicle(not even a 4X4) should go. It has taken abuse, and with some reasonable repairs, kept on going.

I'm not sure about the prices of the truck campers, but here in Texas, I'd not pay more than $3,500-4,000 for that model truck in really good condition.

Hi TxGypsy. Thanks very much for the info :) I must admit that I presently have a 2007 F150 crew cab with the 5.5' bed. I have yet to find a truck camper with enough room that fits the extra short bed. So my dilemma is trading in my F150 for a truck with a longer bed so I have better choices for a slide in. The price of this camper and truck would enable to buy it and still have money left over :) Still a bit undecided on whether or not to go for an older truck. But this is all fun trying to figure it all out :)

Bob

Welcome. Looks good, Lance campers have a good reputation I don't know what its value is but it looks well cared for.

Thanks everybody for the welcome and info. I just emailed the seller of this truck/camper package and I find out the truck is 2 wheel drive, not a 4x4. I really do require 4x4 so I am going to pass on this. If anybody knows of a good truck/camper package please let me know. Thanks
