Welcome to the CRVL forums, Joanna! It's good to hear you're not letting any negativity get in your way. I know plenty of women, your age and older,
that are traveling solo full time. I'm not much younger than you, and my physical health is trying to get the best of me. It ain't going to happen, yet, though. The road is where I am happy.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome aboard Joanna!
Send Negative Nelly pictures of you at all the great places you go with a big grin on your face so she can see what she is missing !
Oh yeah ! and don't forget to post some of them here too ,,,we do like those pics !
Happy Trails To You !

Will ck hints and your site. I also want to do more physical fitness work..I had both knees replaced a yeAR ago..man that was fun..if he had not done both at same time...I would never have gone for the second one..
What are you traveling in? I don't know how to back up a trailer..not mechanical at all...or good at electrical... but I am going to learn so i can do this full time. I may do few car trips to my favorite state park in Fl. .

Hello Joanna and Welcome

Right after I found this site and joined I was so excited that I told my family and best friend. You'd have thought I told them I was joining a nudist colony, they were like "Oh no you're not!' and I'm  "Oh yes I am".

They never ask if I've changed my mind and I just quit talking about my plans.  I know they are concerned about my safety, my health and since  I'm "over the hill and 1/2 way down the other side" I should know better.  I appreciate their concern and love each and everyone of them.

However I do not intend to live the rest of my life to suit others.  Money and health issues are the only things that are slowing me down....hopefully they will both improve....I have a plan and right now I do what I can when I can.

Even if progress is slow we can still call it progress.

So what are you're Hopes ...Dreams ...and plans towards becoming a travelling lady?

I wish you well  :) ,                       Jewellann  [my last name also begins with a F]

I feel so excited for you, too!    You're going to have so much fun exploring the country.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm one of those single solo full time women of whom Cyndi speaks.

And yes, there was some spats of negativity, from some relatives mostly...still is actually.  I don't let what others think of me (unless it's positive... :D ) get in the way of doing what I want to do.

Learning to back up a trailer is not all that hard, it just takes practice. Most of the other stuff you need is just learning, both by making mistakes and by asking questions.

There is a lot of variables to be taken in to consideration in choosing what you're going to travel in. It is hard to figure out what would work best for YOU but that's a discussion in itself. I like taking a pen to paper with pro's and con columns for each scenario. It helps narrow down what will work best.

Welcome joanna: I had thought there would be no new adventures in my life until I found this site. I  hope to travel but it will be another year or 2 until I can hit the road. There is so much knowledge and experience  here as well as support.  I can feel your excitement through your words. There are many solo women here to get inspiration and learn from. The men here are gentlemen and supportive as well. I'm trying to downsize which is quite an endeavor. Have you ran across swankiewheels website? She has been and is an inspiration for me. Keep posting and let us know how things are going. Nora in mi

Welcome! I am in my 60s also and totally understand where you are coming from. I have always found people negative when deep inside they are just feeling envy and would never have the courage and/or sense of adventure to pursue a dream. Life is short and time so precious.

FEAR rules a lot of lives.

Alcoholics are advised to do it One Step at a Time.

So do the same thing with this:
Step One...... okay, that wasn't so bad.
Step Two..... hardly even noticed that little bump in the road.
Step Three..... that wasn't too hard.
Step Four..... zzzziiiiinnnnnggggg!
Step Five...... wait a minute... HEY, I'M HERE!

Van Living in my old age is a new idea for me. I'm having to let it ferment a bit. I have to figure out what is best for ME, not for everyone else.

Welcome to the CRVL Forum   :)

Knowing about this forum and the information available here will definitely help to bring your dream within reach.
You can find mentors here,  an access to all kinds of tools and reviews of them,  and tips for coping with life on the road with issues you haven't imagined yet.   I think  you'll find the brain trust here to be awesome.

You're welcome to view my beginners websites below if you are  thinking about starting out with a bare Van
and outfitting it yourself or with a little help from friends.   You may want to go south  to "snow bird" for the winter and travel,  and then move northward for the summer and travel in that area where the temperatures suit you.  Then see what's in the middle in the spring and fall.  This minimalist life can provide maximum enjoyment
and satisfaction to those veterans of the work a day world.

Probably the best recovery device is a happy soul. Welcome to the forums. Some even live in their prius. When you think about it, it is a major step up from a back pack and tent, ( but you could take those with you in the prius).
