Whatever you've convinced yourself is fine with me. Does your MH have particle board floors, PB cabinets, seamed roof that will leak, Quest plumbing that was made in Goshen until all the fittings failed, etc? Enjoy you're one off brandless, yearless, no named engine Wonder mobile!šŸ„³
Whatever kool aid you had convinced yourself about your ambulance which you dont even use, doesn't bother me either.
Other people's kool aid has no effect on my, informed, decisions.
My motorhome got hardwood, doesnt have bodily fuids from 1000 people like ambulances do and excellent plumbing. I hardly even use plumbing because I lived out of my tent in the past and prefer to do everythig outside and I got composting toilet too. I like having full ready plumbing as an option if I had to stay in RV park though.

By the way, another thing I like about motorhome is if I needed medical treatment from good facility in a big city especially, I could rent a spot in RV park monthly with utilities to make life easy (I aint got no caretakers), no cops knocking and safe, good luck with that with commercial vehicle, parks dont accept them.

Got to love all these rich propety owners and couples who do occasional camping lecture us solo full timers on what type of vehicle we should use

Not all RVs are bad.
I tried all kinds of stuff such as van, different types of trailers including cargo and a small motorhome, the motorhome was the best.
I camp off road 100% of the time, off rough roads too where I saw truck campers dont even try to enter.
RVs are camping just fine all over the boondocks, many more than vans or anything else out there. Areas I like to camp in, its all RVs, remote little known and away from trendy places where van/box truck crowds go.
If your gonna talk up your RV, you at least gotta tell us what it is!

Most of them have terrible ground clearance, and the bodies and interiors are so poorly constructed that they fall apart on rough roads, leak, etc.

It has a sub floor under the hardwood which is most likely particle bd & I really am glad you like it but don't dis my motor home when you won't even post the year & specs of yours.

You guys are all making good points. There are good things and bad things about lifestyles and they vary as well with peopleā€™s situations. There is no universal right way. Iā€™ve owned a quality motor home, a Jeep truck with a diy topper and everything in between. Nothing has worked in all situations or been ā€œperfectā€ so get over the petty stuff and realize there are many instances where one works and one doesnā€™t. Iā€™ll go one further and mention a light weight self contained camper trailer that can be unhooked, is legal to park most places, can be pulled by a truck (a topper makes for day trips or lots of storage) or SUV and in combination with a bike works well in many situations.

Mine got decent ground clearance, medium clearance is what I call it. I rarely see anyone go past me on the road once I get to the roughest part.
I wont tell what my RV is because its not very common and Im camping alone in isolated places, it'd bee too easy for online nutjobs to identify and harm me.

I did a lot of reasearch and tried different vehicles, I know what works for me and I do only off road camping, my camps got no people around, peaceful.

Bunch of kool aid in this thread, methinks someone wants to offload their clanker box trucks, while they arent even full timing, bunch of BS words and generalizations. I know how problematic those kool aid vehicles can be. Bunch of lies here.

Haha had some ***** in a box truck try to park near me yesterday (240 feet!) in that whole big desolate area with tons of campsites all over, no one around, why didn't he use his "clearance" to give me some space? I had to pack my entire camp while being injured and move to even rougher road and cross another wash. I guess he was afraid his clanker would fall apart, well I took the rough road cause I know how to drive off road safely. Those clankers even look horrible.

I think I will polish my motorhome today some, love it, beautiful comfortable rig I get compliments on in store parking lots all the time. Envious people can keep spewing the never used ambulance kool aid here, I'll just block them. Most ambulances are junk, some good discussions on reddit on how horrible they are.

Done with this discussion.
I draw a line where people try to lure others inexperienced into bad decisions, not my kind of people.

Once I mistaken one of those box rigs for a garbage truck, what a sad way to be homeless. So much work and money to be put into a high mileage run down clanker, just to have basic conveniences, very sad. If they are so grand I wonder why they find my motorhome in the middle of nowhere and setup right next to me disturbing my peace and forcing me to move into really rough road which I'm not afraid to take unlike these cowards who think they are kool becase they drive a rusted written off vehicle which commercial guys can no longer extract profits off, which was hyped up by greedy fake youtubers and "van conversion" companies If I ever see those I go far past them rough road or not, because next will be their offleash pitbulls and drug activities. Just saying it like it is.

The make and model of your rig is not something that anyone would key off of, or even remember. Plus if you are isolated, no one would see you.

Anyway... blanket disparaging of vans, box trucks, and ambulances is just silly... when I'm pretty certain that your rig is built on the same chassis.

There is something for everyone and their individual situation.

Some prefer car camping in a Prius or other small car. Others prefer a diesel pusher. And everything in-between. Some prefer trailers, living off of motorcycles, step vans, whatever.

You found something that works for your sensibilities and I'm happy for you.

But don't be disparaging towards others that don't share your thoughts and make different decisions. This shouldn't be an argument on any level.

Ahaha....even Bob is getting rid of his ambulance now and done with it!
Said its a money pit that keep breaking down.
Just like what I said, these things are a no brainer.
Good luck wasting life on building out these commercial clankers, life is too short to waste on that. He didnt even enjoy it for that long. And he put like 5K into the wrap job alone, not like you ever have to wrap an RV

People in this thread are spreading really stupid BS. Meanwhile tons of RVs happily camp off-road.

By the way, van, ambulance, truck: insurance will pay zip, nada, zero for the build unlike with RV, know of people suing i surers for their 100k rigs getting only vehicle value paid out. Good luck with that and lawyer fees.

I mean I'm sorry Bob faced these problems with his ambulance, but it shows how ridiculous are some of the lies in this thread, from people who do not full time. Wish he heard the warnings from overlanding community before he bought.

There's nothing better than RVs invented yet for full timing. If someone is hell bent on 4x4 hi clearance a truck camper or offroad trailer and call it a day. One really is acting insane building out those other clankers.

I don't think Bob ever had a no name ivisible one off secret agent motor home. I know you could tell us the name but then you'd have to kill us. It's against the spies & hitmen union contract. I bet you have a secret handshake. Can you post a pic of your top secret 3 box top & 2 quarters Decoder ring? šŸ„³

I don't think Bob ever had a POS aka Piece of Sunshine motor home. He started in a box truck, a pickup for a while, an ambo. You don't seem to know how insurance works either.

I agree a small camper trailer with a reliable tow vehicle are about as easy as it gets unless you are of the few that are long term backpackers used to living in a small tent or tarp then a basic van works as a steel tent with few compromises.

The best part is as Bob Wells is gettung rid of his problem-ridden money pit ambulance looks like he now got himself a small RV trailer. (y)(y)(y)
All the ridiculous lies about RVs in this tread...haha. If you can't tell quality RV from a bad one when you are shopping, at least hire someone who does.

Bob Wells said he got suckered into that ambulance (diesel) stuff by all the hype and would not touch anything diesel ever again. That's what Im talking about, all this kool aid online BS suckering people into bad decisions. Even Bob fell for that, imagine someone inexperienced. At least Bob can financially recover. He siad his ambulance, which initially seemed OK as I recall, just constantly wouldnt even run, and putting thousands into repairs didnt improve things a bit. He got big Subaru as a main vehicle (and little RV trailer) now, because Toyota RAVs are sold out. Guessing he also got new 3000 tow hitch on this one
And I guess the ambulance probs really escalated if he couldn't even wait for the RAV. I'd still go with Toyota.

Hybrid vehicle climate control is a game changer but the engines are worked harder than predicted by the designers it appears in my opinion. Most small self contained trailers are still too heavy for the CTV transmissions in my opinion as well. An older Tacoma or Four Runner with the V6 or V8 is a much more capable vehicle but gets 1/2 the fuel mileage with no climate control or electrical power options the hybrid has. Hopefully there will soon be improvements in hybrids so they can be a more viable option for towing a lighter weight camper trailer than is available today. In my opinion Bob compromised both in the choice of vehicle and trailer to get hopefully better fuel economy as he wonā€™t be towing the trailer often as he stated. I towed a small standup light weight DIY trailer with a 2013 4 cylinder 4x4 Tacoma and it wasnā€™t ideal as fuel mileage dropped below 15 MPG from 23 MPG with a solar system, propane generator and heat as well as toilet and 10 gallons of water for 7 days for two of us full time. Traveling with everything we owned and needed was just too much weight in my opinion. Traveling with a head wind was maximum 60 MPH most times.
