Hey friends.  I'm about a year from climbing out of the rental arena and taking to van life.  My neighbor, however, is a mere three months away from her launch date, and she wants to start by converting her Ford Escape.  She's in her 50s and struggling with MS, so she's hoping to get some help from a van build group effort of some kind.  She will provide the lumber but needs help with design and the construction.  Please respond to this post if you know of that sort of group effort that she can get to for help, and if there is anything like that on the calendar, anywhere.  Thanks in advance.  My first post by the way. Cheers

Welcome to the CRVL forums jacksbarefoot! I checked your profile and see that you have Fort Lauderdale as your location. Is that where you and your neighbor are right now? We don't have a lot of members in Florida but hopefully someone will chime in and be able to give her a hand. In the meantime perhaps she and you can look at YouTube videos and get an idea of how she wants to set it up - https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=SUV+camper+build

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi. I know that a lot of what you posted in response is because that is standard language for someone's first post;  I've been lurking here since January and signed up in March, so I know the drill.  To answer your question, yes, we are in Fort Lauderdale, and as I said, she will be willing to travel anywhere for a van build group effort (it doesn't have to happen here).  We've both been watching youtube videos for quite some time, and though those videos are great resources, they don't cover the topic of what's next and when or where.  As I said, she's looking for the next van build group effort.  Thank you for the response.

Yes, this is exactly what I was referring to; we both watched a bunch of videos that came out of that effort from last year.  You say November.  Are the dates already set?

I was one of the builders at the 2018 event...…...and I'll return again

BUT during the FREE Van Build an "individual" can expect Help with a SINGLE project that can be finished within a day !......anything more is outside the realm of the event and requires YOU to find and negotiate with your own build team...…

(and Jamie's said...…..Next time there's NO MORE "RV repairs"......this is a van build...…….those repairs become a bottomless-pit)

Lots-O-People go away disappointed ….our Pirate Camp was located away from the main group...We became the"builders of last resort"

Dispatch would send us all the strange requests that did not fit in Main Camp...….

Grind rust and repaint where a door step leaked...….  Repair NASTY Battery terminals / wire help......

Our team took the interior OUT of a cargo trailer.....Insulated......and RE-Installed the same interior......4 days !

The Bleeps...(one-of-our-own YARCers).....finally got their Dinette built out

After getting turned down at Main Camp...…... MermaidLili got her brand new Nissan Insulated/Paneled/MaxFan/ and Bed built

I'm in Oregon now...…………..see you on the road
