Hello everyone! I'm really glad to be a part of your community. My name is Chris and my wife Kellie and I have lived in a car for a year and a half in Ohio. We're moving to Oregon in July and I was wondering if anyone knew how to get a drivers license in a new state if you have no address? This is for only setback that makes us scared to go through with the move since we'll need to work when we get out there. Any info would be great! Thank you!

Welcome aboard and no idea on your license question.

Maybe one of our Oregon members can help here.

I guess you could just call DMV there and ask what the requirements are...

Chris and Kellie! Welcome to the CRVL forums! Therre is no simple answer to that question. Is there a reason you need an Oregon address? Most full timers pick one of the full time friendly states. You could drive through South Dakota and get residency and a license, there.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Oregon looks like a tough one. Here is their page where you can see their requirements:

Also, check this out:

They do allow a statement from a homeless shelter, that may be your best bet. I'd find one and make use of it--remember, as far as they are concerned you are homeless so let them help you. They'll have the answers you need. I also think you will have to go down to the DMV and ask for help there.

I'd guess you can rent a space at a RV Park and have mail sent to it and bank accounts using it and use that. But confirm it for sure.

Let us know what you find out!

in california I have a postal annex address for years, thats where they send me my registration, licenses etc even when I lived in apts. I dont see why it would be different elsewhere especially for people who move often.

The Real ID Laws have made it a lot tougher than it used to be.

I haven't tried this yet myself as I just started working on my build but I've seen a few vandwellers on YouTube recommend using private mailboxes for car registrations or a digital mailbox service like iPostal1 or Earth Class Mail.

Here's one of the videos where I saw it mentioned, hope it helps.

Getting a mailing address is very simple, they don't care where your mail goes. The problem is having a residence address. The majority of states now require physical proof that you reside at the residence you claim.

South Dakota is still by far the cheapest and easiest.
