I'm working and boondocking in Seattle. Although I've been living out of my van for a year now I've just joined the forum.
I have job and a house that I don't live in. My wife of many years could get a job but that is beneath her; she views her self as a world-class, person of talent, (unfortunately not recognized yet). It is my job to support her like Monet's family supported him. I was between jobs, we almost lost the house, she wouldn't look for a job. I was working two jobs to catch up, she wouldn't help out. My daughters had some substantial college costs coming up and the wife still wouldn't get a job to help out - that was the last straw, i moved into my van and filed for a divorce. I'm using the money I would have put into rent to help cover my daughter's expenses.
I have a full size 2000 Dodge ram van, my concerns are stealth and carrying my bicycles / camping on the weekends. I pulled out the seats, they went into a storage shed. I built a bed with storage underneath, set up a kitchen area with a hand pump faucet and parts from Goodwill. The woodwork is very hap-hazard, I find it is hard to do things right while living in the van. This summer I added a Fantastic Fan and a Mr Heater. I've got a couple golf cart batteries and a solar panel that I need to put up on the roof. Someday there will be the right conjunction of good weather and spare time. I like the flexibility of being able to take off for Yakima or Portland for the weekend.
My friends who know about the van feel sorry for me, they don't understand why I don't feel sorry for myself; and as for learning to date again, I haven't figured that out yet.
My current dream is to pick up a used sprinter, take the time to convert it properly into an RV and tour the country.
