I'm working and boondocking in Seattle. Although I've been living out of my van for a year now I've just joined the forum.

I have job and a house that I don't live in. My wife of many years could get a job but that is beneath her; she views her self as a world-class, person of talent, (unfortunately not recognized yet). It is my job to support her like Monet's family supported him.  I was between jobs, we almost lost the house, she wouldn't look for a job. I was working two jobs to catch up, she wouldn't help out. My daughters had some substantial college costs coming up and the wife still wouldn't get a job to help out - that was the last straw, i moved into my van and filed for a divorce. I'm using the money I would have put into rent to help cover my daughter's expenses.

I have a full size 2000 Dodge ram van, my concerns are stealth and carrying my bicycles / camping on the weekends. I pulled out the seats, they went into a storage shed. I built a bed with storage underneath, set up a kitchen area with a hand pump faucet and parts from Goodwill. The woodwork is very hap-hazard, I find it is hard to do things right while living in the van. This summer I added a Fantastic Fan and a Mr Heater.  I've got a couple golf cart batteries and a solar panel that I need to put up on the roof. Someday there will be the right conjunction of good weather and spare time.  I like the flexibility of being able to take off for Yakima or Portland for the weekend.

My friends who know about the van feel sorry for me, they don't understand why I don't feel sorry for myself; and as for learning to date again, I haven't figured that out yet.

My current dream is to pick up a used sprinter, take the time to convert it properly into an RV and tour the country.

Welcome, Albert,

Sorry you've had life problems that sent you in to van living. Spouses or partners of both sexes can be in denial of what sacrifices are fair or needed in difficult situations.

But I'm happy to note you seem to be finding vandwelling a fairly pleasant experience with potential for true freedom down the line.

Our stories are similiar, a divorce forced me into a van and it turned into something wonderful for me as well.

All the little problems you're facing have a solution and we'd love to help you find them together--feel free to ask.

The key thing is there is a light at the end of the tunnel, once you're daughters costs are covered you can start putting that money into yourself and your dreams. The best times of your life are ahead of you!!
Bob

Good for you Albertm ! :)

And welcome to CRVL.  I think you'll like it here.

I've had a lot of past school friends and corporate workers to look on me puzzled that I work from
home now, come and go as I please,  don't have to answer to anyone,  I'm paid for and don't have my hand out to anyone nor am I making excuses.   And I swear they all think I must be crazy to be this happy.  I can't imagine how they would feel if they thought I was living solely out of that 90 E 350 sitting beside the house.
If they only knew my plans for it.  LOL   They may be chasing after me with butterfly nets and lock me up for my own safety.

So you go on and enjoy and learn from experience.  Think how liberated we are now from land lines (that we once had to sit by and nanny)  with today's Smart Phones and the mobility that gave us.   Living in the Van
can take off grid living to the next level and free us from being stuck with a house and people around us that we would rather not be around.

Have you named your Van yet ?  I think I'm going to call mine "Rising Star".

Welcome to the CRVL forums, Albert! I'm so glad that you're finding happiness in your new life.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome albertm!

Over the years, I've turned a number of passenger vehicles in to work trucks. Storing the seats somewhere, prepared for that mythical day when I want to reinstall them...which has never yet happened. I remember thinking I'd stash some minivan seats in my parents basement and being told that'd be fine... just as soon as I remove the seats from last 2 vehicles... ?

So now I try to dump seats pretty fast... usually someone will take'em for camp or basement furniture. Which reminds me, anyone want an Astro rear seat? ?

Welcome, I'm pretty much right there with you, and looking forward to my van life soon.
