46 years old Male  currently traveling 2 months year in a pick truck with soft sided pickup camper considering sell everything and just staying on the road full time just trying to figure out what type of vehicle to stay with truck camper or upgrade or downgrade

Its a personal decision in the end. A truck camper will take you allot of places. Having said that I’m not a popup camper fan. At the end of the day it’s just a big tent.

You need to sit down and determine what does and doesn’t work regarding your personal processes and your traveling style.

At the age of 46, sadly your largest expense may be health insurance costs.

you have been living in it for 2 months straight :) you kinda should know what is the best of this rig or the worst of this rig and go from there. Remember NOW you will be FULL time, so those little annoyances etc that you can live with for a few months, they become permanent.....so...if you tackle it full time, be sure you have the comforts you require.

Do you want to set up a soft sided truck camper all the time, put up, take down to travel again? Possible more wet canvas on travels.
Do you want hard sided truck camper to keep with you at all times or a travel rig to maybe unhook at a site and have your travel vehicle alone? Are you staying more put or on the road more?
Do you need more space and larger bathroom for permanent living? Do you kinda need.....do you want....do you definitely require......and go from there!
How do you want to travel and what is best for you.....only you can decide truly :) :) :)

We retired in our early 50s. Since for a family of 3 our ins. was thru the roof conventional, so we went with Christian Healthcare Ministries. Any Christian healthcare option might fit.....I say 'might' here :)….it is very personal what options you will require etc in med care for yourself. This was a super fit for us at this point and very very affordable. (do research on healthcare if needed, this is just a suggestion, in no way an advertisement or anything LOL)

We owned a truck camper. We bought the super extended big sucker, Elkhorn :) loved it, we pulled our big azz boat when traveling and it was a great time. But I have to say, loading and unloading that thing was not easy.....it wasn't horrible in any way....it was just kinda annoying to get it back on the truck when we took it off LOL It wasn't as easy as a travel trailer, unhook and done, it was more involved as you know so that hook up and unhook could be a factor in deciding on your travels.

make a list :) pro and con and go from there. You will find what suits ya great! You know what it is like out there already, just think long term now.

So you know what it is for 2 months at a time in your rig now, just sit and list the pros and cons and see which way you will tip.

Well about 30 days  into my 2 months I like the idea of be small enough to park in regular parking spaces  I decided to day to build an extended van my plan will be to.build over this next year and sell my house around may 1 st of next year and hit the road thanks for your advice

a man with a plan.....go for it! I know you will build what suits you and fit your needs~! Happy for you!!

Just for fun take a look at the wooden small! truck camper top Bob built years ago.

I’d like to go with a truck camper if i could find one simple and light enough. -Like a fiberglass empty shell, almost like the empty part of a van. If your truck is still good I’d consider keeping it.

I have an Alaskan Camper 8 foot cabover on my truck. It is a hard sided pop up. secure and at 1500 lbs 3/4 ton truck works well. Welcome and good luck.

If you can find one there was a company near nashville,tn that built a very good priced truck camper they were called eureka campers I believe the owner died last year and they are out of business but it was an all aluminum shell with bonded fiberglass
