While at the Washington State Fair yesterday I came across an ingenious little device that can turn a stovetop burner into a basic BBQ grill. It's called "Grill It!". Lightweight and relatively compact (and doesn't turn your van/rv/cabin into a smoker), I think those of you who enjoy grilled/BBQ food might enjoy it.

I was impressed enough with the demo (and knowing how my wife loves grilled food, and I hate grilling food on the BBQ) that I bought one. Cost on Amazon is about $20. Reminds me a bit of a Mongolian grill.
 
I've never liked barbequing (so the campchef, which takes up a lot of space) doesn't work for me.

Well, one test so far - did veggie shish-ka-bobs. The Grill It was easy to use, did not smoke, and the food turned out great! I'll be trying it with some salmon in the near future (sorry, I don't eat meat, so I won't be able to give any input on that).

Dimensions: it's 1 1/2" tall and about 12 1/2" across (circular). It consists of two parts - the grill and a ring under the grill.

To use it, coat the grill with oil or spray oil, put the grill on the ring, and pour about 1/2 cup of liquid (water, wine, or beer) on the grill. The liquid will go into the ring.

You put the ring over a burner (set on med low), let it warm up (about 5 min), and then grill your food.

Clean up is easy - pour out the liquid from the ring and gently wash (do not scour) the grill.

Gotta say, a whole lot easier than a regular BBQ, and combined with it's compact size and light weight (about a pound), it's ideal for the mobile lifestyle.
 
Cooked salmon fillets on the Grill It! last night. Probably the best job of cooking salmon I've ever done (and I've been cooking my own catch for over 10 years).

Several things I liked about it. It was easy to see how well the salmon was cooking (unlike stoves and covered bbqs, where you need to constantly open things to check them, usually with less than optimal lighting). Being able to see how things were cooking it was easy to determine when they were done.

I flipped the fillets easily, something I was hesitant to do.

Again, no smoke (so the smoke detector didn't go off - we've got a very sensitive smoke detector), which was a major plus.

About the only negative things I can say about it is that it's rather small for home use (but great for vans/RVs), and the convex shape of the grill means things might slide toward the edge a bit (but very little).

Other than that, two enthusiastic thumbs up!
