'Allo! My name is Inigo Montoya. You keel my father, prepare to die!

Oops! Sorry! Been watching too much Netflix! :roll eyes:

Anyhow, I've been fascinated by and tried a number of alternative living situations over the years, including living in a converted Greyhound bus!

Now, I'm almost ready to take the plunge into living in a van. What the details of that are going to look like may take about a month or month and a half to manifest.

Initially, I was planning on a step van because I'm tall. (6'3") This may yet happen, but I've seen some hi top conversion vans that look pretty good. Another possibility that may pan out is a decommissioned ambulance. I love the storage!

One last option is a shuttle bus. I'm pretty flexible in my choices of living space! Anyhow, I'm looking forward to meeting others with different experiences to share and explore and decide what exactly IS going to happen!

Blessings!

Lugh

Welcome Lugh.
Around here your sense of humor is going to be of value. We'll just say there's an "interesting" group here :D

All kidding aside...all of the modes you've mentioned are represented here in some way or another. Lots of folks here have or have had about any manner conveyance you can think of. Loads of info to be had.

Glad to have you aboard.

Hey Lugh, welcome welcome.

To confirm your thoughts on some high-top conversion vans, mine is approx. 6 foot 5 inches or a little more at its highest, so in a van like that you would have at least someplace to stand up straight in--if you take off those high-heeled cowboy boots, that is. :D

Of course, many conversion vans, even many raised roof conversion vans do not have as much height.

'Looking forward to your participation in the forum...and good luck to you, whatever vehicle you end up choosing.

Thanks for the welcomes Jay, Margie, GP, oh, and let's not forget Bindi! <grin> I know how min-pins can be if they don't get the proper amount of attention.

I do have a weakness for those old pointy-toed cowboy boots, but I've had to forego them for a bit. The bus I lived in only had 2 places where I could stand completely upright, so I know I can go years in slightly cramped spaces. Just so long as I can stand up SOMEtime!

I'm looking forward to participating as well! I think this is gonna be fun!

Hiya Lugh

What part of the country are you from? What kinda work? Kids? Hobbies?

I'm a huge advocate of stepvans. The space and room of a small bus, the convience of being able to work on your engine from your living room, being able to park ina regular grocery store parking lot space, and sitting high enough to see EVERYTHING...right over the top of most traffic, and scenic roads come to life for ya!! Oh...and driving with the doors slid open is awesome!!! :D

Sounds like you've already gotten your feet wet to this lifestyle, so I'll just say:
"Welcome to the Asylum"!!!

Hey Patrick and Frugal!

I'm originally from a small town in IN, but I now live in Tucson. Other than Tucson, the place that's been most "Home" to me was Bisbee, AZ. Bisbee has one of the highest eccentric per capita counts in the world, so I felt right at home! Actually, I sometimes felt middle of the road, so I might just fit right in 'round here!

I have no offspring, though I've had a couple dogs and cats, and one lizard (!) that stood in.

As far as work, well, I'm a bit of a jack of all trades, having done computer tech work, singing telegrams and almost everything in between! My longest term career was as a massage therapist. I still do a little now and again for friends.

One of the things I hope to do by van dwelling is to find enough time to practice and become proficient on the Celtic Harp I built. ( I also do Medieval Re-creation. <well enough to occasionally get paid for it!>)

Though I realize blending in and "stealth" are qualities that are prized in the Vandweller community, I'm afraid I personally have never been very good at "blending in"!

I'm usually the rather silly but very nice person who will usually be one of the first to volunteer to help someone I don't even know all that well. Someone recently told me that before she got to know me better, she thought of me as being so nice it was almost creepy! I replied, "Oh Dear Goddess! I've become Mister Rogers!"

Although I do like cardigans, I'm probably as far from Fred Rogers will still being a nice guy. She just found me a little strange in that I don't tend to have hidden agendas. I tend to be pretty upfront.

I love what you had to say about steppies! I'd thought about most of those except driving with the doors open. That sounds very cool!

So, I ought to bring this to a close before it graduates to "Wall o' Text"! Looking forward to seein' ya'll around the site!

Hey Lugh....we're in Tucson and I used to have a place down below Bisbee.
WooHoo, the nights up in Whiskey Gulch :D
Long time but loved being there.

Wanna meet up for a brew??
Shoot me a PM.

Hey Jay!

Yeah, I have some pretty wild memories of the Gulch! Fire-breathing Performance Artists and the Miz Ole Biz Pageant! Whoohoo indeed! Definitely gonna have to compare notes!

Bisbee is quite a place, very eclectic, to say the least.
I lived off grid out of town, as in, didn't know about 9/11 till I wandered into St. Elmo's the next day...talk about shocked!!!

See ya later

Thanks for the welcome, Gus! I really like your bus build! Very pretty! Good insights on heat and insulation, too!

Jay, I was living in Bisbee around 9-11! Did you ever see a sign for Lugh's Magic Hands Massage Therapy & Spa in the Allen Block? It was kinda catty corner to the Old Bisbee Coffee Company. That was me! I was also very active with the Bisbee Repertory Theater!

See ya at Boondocks!

OMZ...do you ever bring back some vivid pictures. I know we've met.
We saw Seth a couple yrs ago at a group gathering in Tucson. He gifted us with a pound of a very good roasted bean.

I appreciate that he supports and buys product from growers in under-developed countries in Central America.
Also supports other worthy efforts for clean water worldwide, Trees for the Future, and other life sustaining endevours.

We've switched some plans and may be in Bisbee early next month for a few days.
I'll enjoy the visit, I'm sure.

Yeah, Seth is an awesome person! Is he still all buffed out? I actually first met him before he took up lifting weights. His transformation was amazing!

He was looking good when we saw him.

Nice day...best get back to my little projects. A few things to pretty up before the van trade this week.

See you at boondocks later.

Thanks Blkjk for the welcome!

And Thanks Jay for the great review! Y'all were very nice to meet as well. Spending the evening with you and your lady was a lovely end to a wonderful day! Best of luck on your journey.
