This thread is rapidly approaching 'unacceptable forum behavior'. Smoking is not illegal, and equating a legal act that some of our members engage in with theft and sex offenses, let alone murder, will not be tolerated.

That said, please keep in mind that living in a vehicle is also considered by 'society' at large, and many employers, as being 'unacceptable'. Replace the word 'smoker' with the word 'vandweller' in the above posts, and it is easier to see the glass house.

On a personal note- my own barometer goes something like this:
If a proposed law is something straight out of "Demolition Man', it's probably a bad idea.

I believe as people age out in our society the attitudes and selective enforcement we see today will change. The hot buttons won't go away they will just be transformed into new issues. The current crop of ideolgy driven differences will, because of age of the participants, be solved. The coming generations in this country and the world as a whole are going to be very unsettled indeed. The debt, lack of opportunity, waste of resources, lack of security, threat from other governments could make this a sad world for generations.

I prefer to believe that the people in this country won't settle for that gloomy scenario. I think they will dig in become creative and vital. Problems we thought insurmountable wil be swept away like trash in the wind. New ideas, new concepts, new approaches to problems will come. An understanding of history and its lessons will be paramount in this new age. Previous failures will be studied and corrected. And Justin Bieber will be sent back to Canada.

that is a great example of what society can create, he wouldn't be what he is if society didn't bieleabe. poor little guy not even twenty and his life is ruined, like Elvis we won't let him live and we likely won't let him die.

Society a a whole had nothing to do with this character. The easily impressed in this society may have had a hand in it, but a lot of us don't know anything about him until he started acting out. Plenty of people attain stardom without self destructing. Personal responsibility.
