Creativity RV just released a new video that i believe is a good source of information for newbies - especially if there are some personal doubts about handling the idea of being alone. The video asks the question of whether or not a nomad needs a tribe but goes deeper into general questions about socialization and social interaction. I highly recommend it.

She makes good points. I love people- love meeting them- however, I also love camping alone. I like to dine out with folks- even strangers - but I camp alone. Some folks are ambiverts. I most definitely am. I am gregarious on paper but not so much in person. I know doing videos is not for me. I think that must take a full fledged extrovert. I admire anyone who is that comfortable in their own skin. Good video. Thanks.

Creativity RV - I can't remember her name but will go watch the video. I have watched a lot of her videos. She's very talented.

No... you don't have to be a full-fledged extrovert to make YouTube videos. You just have to be willing to try to get out of your box... to push your limitations aside. I am not a real extrovert and was painfully shy when young. But because of my ridiculous timidity I forced myself into making YouTube videos to train myself to speak better.

Most YouTubers have bad first videos. It is hard to learn to be comfortable in front of a camera, especially when you have physical flaws like I do. When I started I must have tried at least two or three days to produce a video I could put on the web. That was a few years ago. Now I can sit in front of a camera and speak fifteen minutes straight without having to edit ... well, not always, but most of the time. I think I achieved my first goal of learning to speak better.

I could do it in character, I suppose, but I don't think I could present myself on camera. I think that must take another level of self-confidence. I think the woman in this video has a good presence. I felt she was genuine and believed what she was saying.

I live in senior apartments right now, and yesterday went to a crafts workshop being hosted in our community center. When the ladies there found out I do YouTube videos they were kind of excited and said they want me to teach them how it is done, at the next workshop two weeks from now. Several women said they could never put their face on the video. That's kind of common for arts and crafts videos where you just see someone's hands working on art projects, and I even know a booktuber who has never shown her face. So I'd say, appearing on the camera isn't necessary for YouTube participation.

That's good to know. I've been involved in Little Theatre for as long as I can remember but that's a character. I might enjoy doing a video as a voiceover.

Best wishes with your workshop. That sounds like fun. I'd take it.

*What are your videos about?

I have four different channels right now - the Booktube channel is the main one I've posted videos to. . . . about books. There are a lot of readers posting Booktube videos on YouTube, and we get to know each other and leave comments on each others' videos so it really is a form of visual social media.

I'm putting arts and crafts videos on another channel, and am going to have a travel channel, which has only one video on it right now. The links to my channels are in the side column on my blog. The blog link is in my profile here.

I consider video making a great hobby and part of the reason I do it is to keep myself young... well, I've heard that as we age it is important to keep doing new and challenging things and learning more - and video making fulfills that purpose for me. Also, I'm doing this for my descendants thinking they might like to know who I was in case these videos are still online many years from now. I do that because my ancestors left very few clues as to who they were and I don't want to do the same.

Thank you. It's good to have something you enjoy and four channels should do the trick. I'll look them up.

I think you're right about new interests. I took up white water paddling (canoe) 5 years ago, at age 55. I was the oldest rat in the barn taking lessons. Most women my age had been paddling WW since they were young. I had very little fear of it. One of my instructors put it to my not having as much to lose at this age. :D I was happy to learn a new skill.

Do you think you might hold your workshop at WRTR (if that's possible)...?

Probably not this time because it is my first WRTR and they probably have things already planned. Maybe in 2020.

This is a quote from a letter I got this week from Phyllis, Sueanne's assistant, regarding teaching, presenting, mentoring etc at the WRTR

"The way the sessions work out is that on the first day of the WRTR, after the orientation, you will be given the opportunity to sign up for making  a presentation. Rather than making arrangements before the WRTR, it is done on the first day of the gathering. So, please make certain you get signed up. I bet there will be many, many women that want to learn what you can teach!"

What she was referring to for what many, many women might want to learn from me is how to use tools and get great results with them.
