I have heard about it, but can anybody tell me about their experience with it? People say that it will make your Android phone faster, etc. Is it hard to install? Will you loose anything by installing it?
I now have a Motorola Razr M because the older Droid X finally died. If anybody can shed some light on this subject I would appreciate it.

Gingerbread is a couple generations old at this point, but it was a decent operating system. I definitely like the speed of KitKat though, but that's the newest, and Razr probably won't support it. What does your razr currently have?

Whatever came with it? I tried to look it up and they said Android OS?

go into "settings", "about phone" and you should see something like Android version x.x or x.x.x.
my personal favorite is Frozen yogurt(2.2), my current phone has Gingerbread(2.3.3), Ice cream sandwich, Jellybean and KitKat are very slick,. the razr M should already have ICS(4.0) or JellyBean(4.1) so even if you could do it 2.3 would be a downgrade

OK, Thanks minimotos95, it's Android version 4.1.2.
I guess it's "Jellybean?"

yup, released in late 2012. that's the same thing my razr maxx had when it got fried, Jellybean ran a bit faster than Ice Cream Sandwich did.
for real performance gains a custom ROM and root is necessary and it also opens up for overclocking abilities. i'm not going to recommend you do that that because you can easily brick your phone even if you do it right. IMO not worth the risk on newer phones.

Thanks for the info. I don't think I want to try an update and possibly brick my phone. It seems to work fine for what I do as it is.
PS, My Droid X turned into a brick just as I was getting all the info and photos saved from it. I got lucky! I saw the signs that it was dieing and it did while I was signing for the new phone at Verizon. They just barely managed to retrieve my information before it did. WHEW!
