George (Napa Friend) took my van to Galva Cash(auto repair shop) again for Check engine light and Oil light. The oil light was a maintenance timer and the check engine light was for the Idle control. The idle control problem was a damaged electrical connector and the whole mass air flow & intake area was crusted over and clogged up, so they cleaned it all up. It runs GREAT now.
I prepared for the worst and had money set back just in case. The whole repair was $106, woo hoo!! I intentionally ask George to take it to them so he could feel my front brakes and sloppy steering issues. (also, he lives in Galva)
George thought when I had it aligned after we replaced the obvious damaged front end parts, they (Zimmers) would have pointed anything else wrong, and assumed it was OK and just my imagination. He was trying to save me money. George is a good friend.
After picking it up from Galva Cash he took it home and inspected all the rest of the front end and determined the upper control arm on the passenger side had been replaced, but the drivers side was bad and all the front brake parts were original, except the pads and they were glazed & cracked.
He ordered all the parts Friday and installed them all yesterday!! New front calipers, rotors, pads and hoses, plus the upper control arm. The GadgetVan now steers & stops the way it's supposed to. I am so relieved, I didn't want to make the journey to the RTR the way it was.
That should take care of the mechanical problems for now. I feel I can confidently and safely make it to the RTR. It's about 1100 miles one way for me.
I'm getting it aligned today and will install my bed, desk and fridge when I get it back. I'm almost ready!!
