It all comes down to how much data a person uses each month.

I get 10GB of data, unlimited calls and text on Verizon towers with Walmart's Straight Talk, all for $45 a month.

It works great for me.

Another good plan is Red Pocket Mobile... Their $15 a month plan is fantastic, if you don't use too much data.

Bring your own phone on either Verizon or ATT towers with them, apparently.

Is that on a contract or monthly prepaid? Also does it include talk and text to Canada for that price?

I'm on Verizon's pre-paid plan. No contract, 69$ flat to buy and completely own the Moto e4 phone, $60/mo for 10GB of data, unlimited everything else. I'm going to upgrade to the unlimited data plan for $80 when I get on the road. I've been SOOPER impressed with their network accessibility ... with a few exceptions, I have some sort of connection even in very remote areas. I'm looking to add a WeBoost repeater/amplifier in the near future to get even better connectivity.

I believe the native (not resellers) Verizon plans have talk and text to Canada (and Mexico). I have a Verizon plan with unlimited data for my phone and it worked when I drove through Canada to Alaska (and back). I asked at the Verizon store before I left and they told me Canada and Mexico are included in my phone plan. I even got a text welcoming me to Canada. My 3G hotspot ($5 a month) had no service in Canada (and some places in the US (roaming?)) when my phone had service, sometimes only 3G.

I used to have another phone with Straight Talk (Red box = Verizon, Blue = ATT) from Walmart while my DW had a native Verizon phone. There were places we went where her phone would work and mine would want to charge for making a call (guess whos got used).

Check with the Verizon store!

MpMadYesHappy - it should be noted that the Verizon unlimited plan for $80. does NOT include data use when used on a Mobile Hotspot on your phone.

I was ecstatic this fall when I thought I could get unlimited data on my prepaid Verizon when I first crossed the border. Fortunately I was only 10 miles down the highway when I stopped to use my hotspot and found that it wouldn't work. Several hours, two Verizon stores and a return trip north to where I had done the paperwork for this winters' phone service the staff found out the hard way (talking to Verizon tech support) that that plan isn't available for use with a hotspot.

It's fine if you're just using your phone for everything but if you use the phone as a hotspot so you can use a tablet or laptop...ain't gonna work.
