A quorum was reached and the FoB2017SCE is real!

More info tomorrow but to start this topic off here you go…

A Facebook group or page will be created as an ongoing communications forum. Some information will be posted here - as in "check the Facebook thing for the best information". 

A Twitter and Facebook hashtag will be #FoB2017SCE and remember FB posts probably need to be public to include it. 

We will publish information about the various events going on. The Range, the VIPer Lounge, the Oasis, etc. 

Thanks for your continued enthusiasm for this event. 

Each phone number that sent me a text will get a couple of messages about this.

#FoB2017SCE Here's your Twitter and Facebook hashtag. There's a thread on Bob's forum in addition to this group, it's under the subtopics Gatherings - Formal and Informal and the subject of course is the same as the name of this group. I'm not too inclined to post stuff in both places

The image here is a map of SC from back in the day. Our encampment will *likely* be just southwest of the 16 on the map, also known locally as "past the LOWs".

I intend to arrive Monday afternoon. I'll take the route thru Yuma and stop at the Costco in El Centro and the Walmart in Brawley on the way from Yuma. If there's interest in syncing plans let's discuss the timing. 

If you have questions I think [Facebook] is the best place to ask them. 

It's not important for you to arrive at any particular day or time. We are all independent. But please identify yourself and somehow include "Friends of Bob" in your greeting and maybe give me some heads up about your arrival plans. This in exchange for my guarantee that you will have a great time!

The time is nigh for us to gather in Slab City.

I feel like right now I don't hardly know any of you but that will change soon. I said I would arrive early afternoon Monday (tomorrow) and it's still my plan. If anyone wants to meet in El Centro (Costco) or Brawley (Walmart) or Niland (the real town near Slab City) on Monday and drive in and maybe do reconnaissance with me let me know.

Sooo looking forward to this!! Thanks everyone for the gentle push that got me into it again this year.

The Friends of Bob terminology was chosen in part because it seems oddly familiar, like Friends of Bill W. Just sayin'. Kind of a play on words, makes you think for a second. I'm OK with some confusion.

In reply to Caryn, you mean details related to "go with the group"? I'm leaving RTR today to go to Paradise Casino in Yuma for tonight. I could be talked into making a plan for that, set a time, coordinate travel. By default though I invite anyone to meet me there for some pre-FoB2017SCE meet & greet.

The only nearby town is Niland, which is basically some dust and a general store. Not a great place to get lumber and provisions but if you bring what you need you can build at the Slabs. Just don't leave your vehicle there unattended.

Everything is on track. I'm leaving Yuma's Paradise Casino shortly. When I get to Slab City (12:00-2:00 CA time) I will get with everyone who's there for input on site priorities and selection (presumably "past the LoWs").

Let me know by text/call or Facebook post/Messenger or the forum thread.

When we setup I'll update on the location and situation.

How long do you all intend to be in Slab City? I've never been there but it sounds like a wondrous place to experience first-hand.

In reply to inquiries about how long the #FoB2017SCE will last, there's no group plan for how long we will be there. Individual plans vary.

For me I'm thinking something like this:

14 + (7*Fun) + (14*Bass) DAYS

Where:

Fun is a number between 0 and 1 according to how much fun I'm having

Bass is a number between 0 and 1 tied to bass playing opportunities for me

If you aren't coming in the next couple weeks check back as we will know better in a week or two.
