I am currently sussing out the idea of free camping.

There seem to be lots of places around Victoria, I will be sussing out how long you can stay in each one. Surely this has to be better than a caravan park.

Apparently there is a book that you can buy that has a list of free camping sites all over Australia.

Looks like I have some resreach to do.

-toddles off to the world wide web.- Send out a search party if you don't hear from me in a week.

so i see you are from oz. i have been wandering can you go to the outback and camp anywhere or is that restricted to existing campgrounds. just dreaming don't think i'll ever have enough money to get there but have always wanted to. highdesertranger

I actually have no idea. worth the search.
What are you currently living in?

I'd say you could camp out there for free by the looks of this web search: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=...p;oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&client=firefox-a&channel=fflb#hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=Ypq&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&channel=fflb&sclient=psy-ab&q=outback+camping+free%3F&oq=outback+camping+free%3F&gs_l=serp.3..0i8i30l4.40751.42942.0.43918.6.6.0.0.0.0.1093.4951.5-2j3j1.6.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.Rt7wYTqb7Jo&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=379e76dfd202d3e0&bpcl=39650382&biw=1024&bih=510

There are many areas that are not populated and im sure you could camp out there without being noticed. However I'd be guessing that it would be in very hot and sandy areas. Most of the population here lives around the edges of the country.

I've often wondered if there are places up bush that you could camp just randomly in the wilderness, without it being a designated camp site and if people would notice you.

another Auzzie here, at present based in Victoria too.

the book you need if you have not found it yet is Camps - No. 7 is about to be issued in the next month or two, lists all the free camps, low cost camps and low fee caravan parks too, along with decent maps.

(I just wish they would do it in larger print!)

There are a lot of places one can go into the bush and camp with no facilities, depends on where in this land you happen to be at the time, some places are far less friendly than others to van dwellers.

There are a few forums for people on the road and you would get a lot of ideas and input from them.

annie

Hi Annie, welcome to the group. So good to have another Aussie here.

Where does one buy the book from?
