I have a suggested spot for you guys and gals.
I've seen many a car / van / truck / camper using these spots and never harassed by LEO or residents to my knowledge.
If you're in the Finger Lakes region or near Rochester NY area try this one:
Heading down Route 96 / 332 (off Thruway) you'll find County Road 41 (Farmington.) Over by the Finger Lakes Casino / Racetrack (which may be another good spot as well) you will come by a road - Wood Drive.
When you first enter the street you'll see some apartments on the right side and nothing on the left. On the left, it's an overflow / parking area with some gravel.
I've seen a truck and camper trailer parked there for days on end with no one caring or bothering them. I've seen the same for many other vehicles.
