Tin foil cooking. Great for backpacking or whatever. Did this in Boy Scouts and still do sometimes when camping.
Scout's tin foil cooking recipes: http://www.boyscouttrail.com/content/recipe/show-recipes-bear.asp

Breakfast: Boiled egg. 3 corn tortillas. Apple. 2 prunes. Lots of water.

Lunch: Beach Cliff Sardines. Crackers. Peanuts. Apple. Lots of water.

Supper: Camp fire coals cooking. Hamburger patty in foil. Sweet potato in triple wrapped foil. Heat can of 88 cents green beans over coals. 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. Water

Evening snack: Apple. Water.

Great thread Hippieck.

Although I don't have exact prices, I use one carrot, one zucchini sliced lengthwise, some minute rice and a protein like beans or tuna. I have been wondering how to cook beans, even lentils, because of propane costs then I read about thermos cooking!

Thinking I need to invest in a good thermos! Those Dollar Tree ribeye steaks make for awesome Philly Cheese steaks. I have lots and lots of oatmeal in my lineup.

Great cooks everyone! Sometimes we will do a small pork steak for dinner but mostly it's salads with tofu, chinese noodles and 'homemade' wedge fries. We do lots more on occasion (like a full turkey dinner for thanksgiving) but if it's a slow day we just microwave something quick at the truck stop.

Just for fun, I tallied up what I often eat over a month.  Costs are based on shopping at Costco, Trader Joe's, Sprouts and the Farmers Market.  Hubby eats a lot more variety, but I didn't include his foods!

I eat a low carb, high nutrient density diet.  (Low fiber because I don't digest plant foods well.)

Generally, I eat two meals a day.  Liverwurst and Brie on rye crackers or eggs with sour cream and salsa for Meal 1 and a burger or hot dogs or a ham quesadilla for Meal 2.

Quick and easy. I rarely need to cook for more than 5 minutes a day. One pan over my butane catering stove and tea water heated with my JetBoil.

I get a couple pounds of meat for about $3 at the local store (the ones in the big case by the door) and simmer it in my pan, then add rice and cook slow. The meat taste cooks through the rice. Sometimes I add veg to this. I season it later if I need some salt. This makes four or five meals for one, which I refrigerate until hungry. Cost per day is about $1.  :p

For my other meals, I eat eggs for protein every day, plus fruit or juice. I am hooked on mangoes lately which adds up to about $1 per day.

Sometimes I get into cinnamon rolls which adds about 75 cents a day.

So far that is about $2.75 before salad and coffee.

On the days I have salad, I blow the budget due to using bagged kits. Occasionally can get a bagged kit on sale for $2.50. I could add salad for about $1 per day if I chopped the stuff up myself. I could save even more on salad if I picked up the free ones given away at the local grange hall, but then I would have to volunteer for a couple hours on Mondays. Hmmmm.

The other budget buster for me is coffee at about $1 including cream. It's a must have.

So I'm at $3.75 per day plus $$$alad.  ~crofter
