Hi Chris,

You've come to a good place for info and help. Lots of great people and ideas here. Whereabouts are you in MN? I lived in Chaska, and miss it.

Steve

Hi Chris and welcome from New Mexico....good to have you with us.
Bri
I Currently Live in Plymouth, MN.
I guess a little bit more about me:
I have lived in 8 different states so far. My parents seem to be nomads themselves, and it has worn off on me. I have a two year itch, so I end up leaving wherever I am after a year or two. I think living in a van will only perpetuate that problem, but I think it is a good problem to have, at least while I am still young.
You got that right Chris....I have the same exact problem....I grew up traveling...from 11 years old to 14 I would travel across the us from Seattle to NJ on the train by myself...once each way every summer. I was in in three highschools before I quit and joined the Navy...it has been like you describe ever since...the longest was in a cabin in Alaska for 10 years but with lots of world travel in the winters....
Good for you to take advantage of being young and doing it...you don't see many old folks traveling.....you see them being tourists but not traveling...if you know what I mean...
Bri

Welcome and enjoy life as much as you can. It's only so long!

Hi Chris,

You will likely love this lifestyle. Those of us who choose to do it for fun usually find that fun. Those thrust into it by circumstance might not be as happy. It sounds like you will relish the experience.

Van has a fantastic conversion blog at the link he posted above. His carpentry skills are impressive. He goes into excellent detail.

I also maintain a blog of conversion notes, travel ideas, ramblings, etc. but my van isn't nearly as beautiful. It was converted with a Roseanne Barr style decor using Tim Allen inspired construction techniques with some "Larry the Cable Guy" thrown in.

If you get a chance, check out some of the blogs you see in this forum. There is a lot of good information and the quantity of useful information is growing by leaps and bounds.

Again, welcome and good luck!

V.T.

I had a project plan for my van. It was going to take a month. That was about 13 months ago... LOL. Seriously, you'll be doing tweaks and upgrades a lot but I'm sure can get most of the heavy duty stuff done in a month or two.
