Far Out,
Really like the total access to the electrical system by simply removing the drawers. Great Idea.
Job well done.
Bob

Just a quick update on the Webasto.

As others mentioned before us, it is quite noisy! To reduce the noise, we performed a few modifications.
It did not drastically reduced the noise, but help a little. We say it's worth doing it.

The Webasto / Espar Diesel air heaters are susceptible of accumulating diesel deposit (a.k.a. “coking”) at higher altitudes because the ratio of oxygen VS fuel is lowered (i.e. the mix is too “rich” in fuel). This coking would eventually accumulate and lead to malfunction / loss of performance.

For the Espar, the solution is to add a high-altitude module. (more details in the post)
For the Webasto, there is no physical part to add; the unit must be programmed for high altitudes. (more details in the post)

We're a bit late on the post, but here is our electrical system installation!
We used it for a few summer week-long trips and it has served us very well so far :)
The winter test will happened next week, throughout the holidays, while we will spend a week in the backcountry for some splitboarding adventures.

It is a minor point but you mention cold temperature derate when you are talking about the solar.   Solar panels actually generate *more* power in colder temperatures and good sun...to the point that occasionally you will see a 100 watt panel put out more than 100 watts.

You may have been referring to the need to have more solar because your batteries are derated when it is cold, but in this case it is a storage issue and not a generated power issue, so more solar would not really help.

That being said, more solar is better!   We put on 1100 watts of solar with a 230AH battery bank.   Even in cloudy, rainy days, we get about 250 to 300 watts out of it, which still managed to charge up the bank during the day.

But very nice write-up!

Wow, we were featured on Go-Van today

We're so into this project, seeing this with hindsight reminded us the last 8 months just flew by. It's crazy seeing Isabelle standing in this empty cargo van for the first time, we were so excited. But we had no idea all the work that was ahead of us...

But this is far from finished, let's get back to work!!

You can check out the Go-Van post here:

Cheers!

Yes! We're on the Ford Transit USA forum too: http://www.fordtransitusaforum.com/...rsion-mountain-biking-backcountry-skiing.html

Where's the propane tank located?
:)

For now, it's just strapped in the back of the van (inside). But we plan on building a sealed propane box vented through the floor, so it's safe when the relief valve of the tank release some gas (and to be in line with regulation too!).

Air conditioner?
Thanks

No air conditioner, too much power consumption! Also, we are located in Canada :)

The area where the spare tire currently is might be a good place for a under
floor propane tank install  ,, then get a tire carrier to mount to the left rear door.
Just a thought , cheers

I can't mount a tire on the door, Ford has no option for that (and little drill areas) and it would void my warranties. :(
