Given the freezing of previous topic would like to change tactics. Let's look in the mirror.

Many vehicles show early signs that they are not having maintenance done on them. Here are some examples

1). Get new tires and fail to get tires balanced. Fail to get alignment. Fail to fix bushings and ball joints that show subtle wear out. When it all costs $1000 many will option for a cheap path of just buying tires. Wrong move.

2). Fail to wash vehicle. Fail to look closely at paint job for nicks and dings and failing to use touch up to control little rust holes. Failure to do a good wax job once a year. Could cost you a paint job if lucky. It's $50 in supplies yearly and elbow grease. Just do it.

3). Failure to flush out coolent system. Is the vehicle running too hot? Did you replace hoses that are leaking and old ? Could cost you $200 to get everything done right with superior supplies and controlling the wastes.

4). Failure to replace timing belt. Talk about a ticking engine self destruct pending. If it's 100000 miles on the vehicle and you have zero clearance valves (aka non free wheeling) you need it done now. Get the water pump and serpentine belt and all the pulleys done too. $1000.

5). Get the oil changed at every 5000 miles. Just do it. And make sure you have no fluid leaks. Again just do it.

What else is not getting done ? At least once a month run the vehicles at highway speed for an hour to get the catalytic converter working?

Also

6) getting cheap parts to do repairs. Not realizing that the parts are cheap or good. Not knowing how to tell the difference when discussing repairs with your mechanic or your favorite parts supplier.

Great thread!
Much more positive than the first go-round! :)

So many vehicle owners aren't "connected" to their unit.
The sounds, the feelings, the smells of "normal" operation.
Often one can tell that there are issues developing by using your god given senses.

Too often the audio is cranked up drowning out any tell tale noises and we motor along completely oblivious to the vehicle screaming at us..... "I don't feel well!"

Turn off the tunes, open the windows, listen and become connected with your unit while it's healthy and then periodically thereafter. I'm not saying that you should always motor along in silence......just sometimes.

Vehicles know if they are loved. I don't know how, but they do.

One of life's mysteries... The Army can buy a new truck, leave it sit in the motor-pool for 5-years with 300 miles on it. It will look like it's melting back into the earth. Same truck, mine, it knows it's loved. It has sat in the sun for 22-years and still looks great.

I gave my son my car with 56,000 miles on it. It died within 2-years. It knew he didn't love it. Now I have car payments and so does he. :-(

My ex-brother in law had a theory about changing oil. He didn't think it was worth it. He just changed engines at 100,000 miles.

I agree with this whole-heartedly.
My husband's 06 Mazda6 station wagon (bought used in 2011) she ran like a champ, right up until my husband got the idea that he wanted something newer "shiny-er".
Once the Mazda knew my husband was looking at other cars the way he used to look at her (the car) she started having problems.  First the brakes, then the windows, and finally the transmission started to go.

Attributing anthropomorphic features to your motor vehicle is just a little weird, y'all. My truck has been my home on and off for two years but I have never felt love for it at any time. And it will probably continue to hum along reliably, as long as it is not abused or neglected. I guess that can pass for love with some people.

When people quit 'loving' a car they decide to kill it
Maintenance doesn't get done, it gets driven harder, etc, I'm guilty of it myself
