Hey Ya'll

Wanted to let you all know about a little side-job opportunity, incase you hadn't heard of it.  Know when you go to a store and they have a sample table set up with people giving out samples of food or drinks, or when you go to a concert and there are people trying to promote a brand?  Those jobs are super easy to come by and pay REALLY good and are usually just a weekend long (can be longer but most are short).  I find these by looking on craigslist under "marketing/promo" and typing in "Brand ambassador" and can usually find something.  I might try to find some on the road this summer as I travel.  It's always independent contractor so, no taxes are taken out (initially).  There's also promo companies you can join which will send you emails when a brand needs people to do a promo.  I can't list any off the top of my head tho, simple google search should do it.  Usually the pay is AT LEAST $15 an hour, and you usually work anywhere from 5-10 hours a day.  They've always been super fun and usually you get free perks, like a free take away of whatever it is you're sampling.  I'll copy/paste my promo work experience here so you can get an idea of what all there is.  Also, usually you just have to wear black top and pants but sometimes they give you a brand shirt to wear, as well.  Any questions, just ask.

a lot of liquor sampling going on. hmm I could do that. lol, might just sample all the samples. highdesertranger

Ya that was the one part I don't like...always repeating myself. I mean, in short, this is really a sales job...which i actually suck at doing, trying to convince people to buy stuff. The best jobs for me were the hourly ones because i usually fell short of the commission bar that was set. I'd be like "ya it's cool, you can buy it if you want, but, you know, you don't have to", lol.

Ya I did that a bit, I liked the wine sampling more though.  The liquor sampling can put you in some sketchy ass ABC stores late at night with a bunch of drunk dudes trying to hit on you and get wasted for free (which doesn't happen when you're only sampling 1/2 ounce shots)...but maybe if you're a dude it wouldn't be so bad. Ha.  (i could never be a bar tender)

From years of sales...........if you don't believe in the product, you are not going to sell it. If you are collecting a pay check, you are not going to sell it.....but sometimes the products suck and you have bills to pay. It is what it is.......

If you can find a need for the product in a persons life, you will rock the stage. Drop the mic and walk away. You will get noticed.

While its true a lot of the gigs I've done is geared towards young people, there's a place in the industry for old guys. I find that grocery store food samplers care the least about gender and age while also trade shows are the same way. I mean last week I saw a trade show ad wanting someone to sell house gutters at trade shows. Sounded boring as hell to me but I bet would be great for perhaps one of the guys who are, as you put it, "too old, too male, or too unnatractive" for this work.

My advice may not work for everyone but if it it useful to one person then great.

Promo Models ^ similar...but different. I never did the gigs that made you dress up like that, hence why I put the usual attire is black shirt and pants.

Y'all would look good in a bikini tho ;)

Yea, someone took it to the extreme edge with what you said. I understood your intent and appreciate it. I think/hope it was just a misunderstanding. Your talking about the guy or girl demonstrating the new Ninja blender or handing out the "try now!" filers in a store front or something. They have these people selling Tragor(?) smokers in Costco every summer or some wiz bang gadget.

No one needs to do a google search to understand that sex sells.

What you posted has nothing to do with most of the jobs out there of that type.  I have a friend who has been doing it for awhile and she looks nothing like any of those girls and does pretty well so there are jobs out there like that.  You just wanted to bust out your "check your privilege" line.

Nothing to raise your blood pressure over.  It's a disservice to possibly turn people off to it  when you know nothing about it or sales.

I'm out.

Boys, boys...it's ok, lol.

I would delete this thread since it's causing issues but, alas, i cannot find the delete button. Mod?

Ok. My "black top" and me will just keep our advice to ourselves for now on. I don't need to be told to "temper my enthusiasm" and "check my privilege" just for trying to be helpful.

I'm out. Of this forum. Of this site. Peace.

Come back , come back !
There are several hundred members of the forum.
And more joining in all the time.
It's hard to find a better resource for van/etc dwelling.
Take what you like and ignore the rest.

I never thought I'd say this, but uh, "check your privilege".  At least 95% of this forum is too old, too male, and/or too unattractive for this.

Cool that it works for you, though.

Wow! Are you kidding me??? This is a helpful post and you are just trying to be confrontational and argumentative. The only privilege that needs checked is your posting privilege imo.

I hope you didn't leave. I think your post was very helpful and we want you to stay :(

She is still here but is kind of lurking in the background. She'll post when she has something to say.

waverider1986, "Wanted to let you all know about a little side-job opportunity, incase you hadn't heard of it."

I really appreciate you sharing. I'm always adding to my travel list of options that are available should the need arise.
I've heard of it and done it as a Corp employee but hadn't considered it a way of pulling in some quick cash for a day or 3 of hustling.

Good stuff

I've removed a few judgmental, non supportive, and negative posts from this thread.

The idea of a brand ambassador job is a good one. If you've ev er walked through Costco, Sam's Club or BJ's (all are great places for free lunch and no you don't need a membership) You'd know the brands don't just hire attractive babes to do their events.

Thanks for your input waverider. Please continue to contribute to our forum.
