Did my maiden voyage this weekend, for whatever reason the batteries stopped charging at around 60% while running the Powermax 100 amp from the EU2000 even after 2+ hours of run time. Not sure if it's the Powermax charger's fault or the EU2000, but either way it was very unpleasant and I can't stay I recommend the setup. An electrician friend looked at it and wasn't sure what was causing it.

Smart phone thumbs reply.

powermax quits all together at 60%? Stinky hot?

0r holds 14.x as amps taper?

How are u determine ing 60%?

I did put the Powermax in a semi-sealed wooden box not much bigger than the unit itself... could overheating of the unit cause it to quit at around 60% or at least become ineffective? Maybe I need to put it in a larger box with a fan blowing on it.

I couldn't tell if the powermax quit or not... I was driving around while the charging was happening and when I stopped I didn't see if the charger was still going or not, but I think I would have noticed if it was off.

I'm not sure how I can tell if it's holding the 14 as amps taper?

I'm using midnight solar's battery meter:

Not familiar with that midnight solar METER Does it use a big shunt On negative battery cable? If not, % displayed not to be trusted.

The powermax will generate a lot of heat producing 40+amps. Ventilation very important. Recirculating 120 f air will trigger thermal protection and shut down. Cross ventilation so fan can suck i. Fresh air if enclosed.

Non adjustable voltage standard 3/4 stagepowermax will drop to 13.8v as soon as maximum amps gets output terminals to 14.4. Not good for generator.

Adjustable voltage model seeks voltage pre chosen. And holds it as long as 115vAC is provided.

I only recommended adjustable voltage unit. The 3/4 stage models no good for generator charging.

cant recommend powermax anymore anyway, adjustable or not. Too many failure reports.

Check voltage at output terminals when you think it shuts down. If solar can hold battery @ 13.8v+ on Its own at that point, automatic 3/4 powermax will shut down.

Need to know voltage and amps flowing at that elecrical pressure to know what is going on regarding function and battery state of charge.

Without that info.... blind and deaf.

I got the adjustable one. I'll try ventilating and report back.

That's too bad... do you recommend anyone else?

Adjustable one should have.vOltmeter next to adjustment potentiometer.

Cooler electronics last.longer and perform better.

Unit should seek and hold chosen voltage as long as generator is running.

Once chosen voltage is reached.amps taper.
Once amps taper to a low level at chosen voltage of 14.x. then they can be considered fully charged.

0.5 amps per 100 ah of capacity for agm
1.5 to 3 amps per 100ah for flooded. Verify with hydrometer

Ok thank you I'll cool it down.

Did you have any other companies you recommend for chargers besides powermax?
