The 45 is now out of stock....

Murphy's law right? Find a good deal and I'm either broke or it expired, lol!!!

That's ok, not exactly ready today anyway...

But soon!

I can relate. Usually that's what happens to me. LOL!

VanGrrl57 :D

I just pulled the trigger on the MT 80. These are some great deals imo!

So jealous, not just the fridge, but having an offline Frys nearby

I just found out that unlike the Kroger stores in Denver where the sales go Wed to Tues, The sales here go Sunday to Saturday. So I won't be getting Chicken for the freezer. I'll try to get some corned beef tomorrow though.

Deciding between MR040F-U1   MT45F-U1
Price is nearly the same so doesn't matter
The MT45 is 43Quarts and exterior is galvanized steel and weighs 18lbs more
The MR40 is 40Quarts and exterior is ABS plastic for marine(salt air)
My question is will the Galvanized steel be a better insulator(more energy efficient) than the ABS plastic?
Thanks for help

According to 29chico the venting on the 45 allows for more passive airflow over the condenser meaning less run time on the fan, hence more efficient.

Tracking on mine shows it coming on Monday now. I'm getting ready to get out of Yuma now. Could leave tomorrow, more likely Monday.

Steel is the opposite of insulation, not a factor.

Marine use wants plastic for cheap longevity in salt.

Galv will be stronger for land use.

Jim, I'm still in Ehrenberg if you have time to stop by.

Sounds like a plan Bob as long as Max consents. He normally relents if I double up on the cookies and walks. I'll get the general directions off the site. Anything specific you will have to send me.

Let me know when you think you will be here, My build is finally done and I'm pretty anxious to get out of here!

I should be there tomorrow around noon or so. I'm ready to get out of this heat. Speaking of which, it looks like you were cooking just as much or more so than I was today. Wunderland said 97 up there today. :(

I just got the MT-80 off the fed-ex truck today. This thing is huge!

I received my MT-45 yesterday!!!

Uber fast process, ordered on Monday, un-boxed on Friday!

Luving the quality and overall dynamics of it so far.

Plugged it in (on AC!) and am letting it run for a full 24 hours, then I will begin the build it in process!
Seems quite from across the room, but I wonder what it will really sound like in the small confines of the van
while sleeping next to it?

AWESUMMMMMM!!!! Very happy so far!

Thanks for the report. :)

Thanks HDR for the initial heads-up about the sale.  Just checked & the sale is still on.
Last Sunday I ordered the Engel MT45F-U1 and it arrived on Friday. $669.99 + free shipping no tax.
Just plugged it in and it's working great.
It definitely makes noise- I've read some reviews about how you can't tell it's even on.  That is true when it has reached it's temp. but when the motor kicks on to maintain temps. you will hear it.  It's not obnoxiously loud but in a small space at night with no other sounds I'm sure it could wake sensitive sleepers.  Of course it is supposed to have good insulation which means it shouldn't have to kick on too often at night when you are trying to sleep.
I lived in a houseboat for 2 years and the fridge(standard sized) was right next to/touching the side of the bed and that seemed to cycle on a lot during the night.  One of the things you need to get used to when living in tight quarters.  I suspect(hope) the Engel will cycle on much less often.

p.s. This was an exciting purchase-my first geared toward my upcoming odyssey

I had a front loading Norcold fridge with the Sawafuji 'Swing' compressor that I both loved and hated.

I loved having a fridge and more than enought solar to power it indefinitely, I hated its noise and vibration and went through a lot of effort to isolate it from the cabinet and attenuate its noise. It was basically floating in a foam cushion by the time it failed at 5 years. My attempts to reduce noise by further isolating the compressor from fridge body might have helped lead to its failure by loss of refrigerant.

I replaced the Sawafuji powered Norcold with a danfoss powered Vitrifrigo. It makes 2/3's less noise, and uses about 10% less electricity to maintain 6 to 8F average lower internal temperatures.

The performance increase can be attributed to not having to float it in a foam noise and vibration supression cushion, leading to better insultion, and also the forced air condenser allowed me to ensure better heat extraction with no chance of recycling preheated air.

My Norcold had the larger passive condenser that was supposed to rely on natural convection. I had a forced air fan blowing cool air upwards to help those convection currents.

Over a recent 3 day period, My VFc51is averaged 0.62AH consumed every hour with overnight lows low 60's and midday highs inside van about 75F, maintaining 32.5f inside with about 20 door openings per day.

I once did a side by side comparison with a 50 QT ARB chest style( same danfoss bd35f compressor as my VF) that had the extra insulative cover, and my VF easily won that contest.

The danfoss compressor is much much quieter, but there is a click from the thermostat, and then a clunk when compressor first fires up( 56.5 watt start up surge), but it does not disturb my sleep, whereas the Sawafuji powered Norcold, had knuckle sized dents in its door from when it did.

Update, run testing...

We let our new Engel MT-45 run for 24 hours on a mid setting, or a "3". It cycles a lot.
And it has while not unpleasant, but somewhat disturbing hum when it does.

Last night at 10:30, I put two one gallon jugs of water in there, and set the dail to max cold, or "5", to freeze.

When I got up this morning at 6:30, they were solid. So it does work. And quite well!

I turned the stat back to 3 again, and I am noticing it has gone from constant run humming, to cycling. About every five minutes, EVERY FIVE MINUTES, it hums for about two or three minutes, then nothing, five later, hums happen.

I'm gonna call them tomorrow...

At this rate, it would most likely run my batteries out before we leave the driveway...
Yikes! Right?

Dan

I am assuming you left the jugs in there to help hold it's temperature, otherwise a empty fridge/freezer can cycle a lot as air doesn't hold temperature well.
